Re: Ford EcoSport Refresh (inches closer to U.S. shores?)

There are some good aspects to the cheaply rugged design of the EcoSport with hard plastics instead of the overstuffed padded and stitched dashboards of the competition which are designed to be visually softer and more comfortable. The EcoSport instead more clearly communicates it's quirky inexpensive retro econobox charm. It also helps Ford to increase their profits with significant savings in material costs by keeping it very basic and cheap to supply. I think Ford's business practices here are very sound, they spent a fraction on development and production but are able to retain the same price as the competition.

Funny, I just think I need to accept that it isn't the product for me. I'm sitting here thinking it needs to be a tad longer, little bit of a tighter face, and larger wheels to even out the body.

You're actually describing everything else in this segment.

I think part of the interior's uniqueness is also due to the fact that the new gen Fiesta is not sold in the US.

This is one of the rare occasions where a small Ford has excellent interior packaging which can rival some of its bigger competitors.

@wingsnut does the North American SES comes with sports suspension? I read it somewhere, if true that would make it halfway to being an ST-Line.

Ehh I think the Jeep Renegade, Nissan Juke, and Chevy Trax have the same proportional issues I was describing. They look like they're a few years lagging and far too stumpy.

As far as proportions go, this Ford can't touch the Mazda CX3, Honda HR-V, or even the Toyota C-HR.

That's because those three were designed to be stylish hatchbacks with some crossover styling cues.

I think it's a matter of preference, some prefer a crossover that's basically a hatchback car with black cladding, while others prefer a crossover that incorporates some SUV traits (beyond black cladding) like commanding view seating position and extra ground clearance to match its optional AWD system.

I'm sure the EcoSport can do more than those three, specially with AWD.

...Most notably, Ford’s Intelligent AWD system is available for the first time, lending it improved traction off-road and in inclement weather. The system is paired with the Ford EcoSport’s optional 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engine, although the familiar 1.0-liter EcoBoost I3 is still on offer at three different output levels, topping out at 140 PS (138 horsepower). Other features include, for the first time, Cruise Control with Adustable Speed Limiter, and a rearview camera. Options include: automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, Ford BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), power-folding heated wing mirrors, premium B&O Play audio, a 4.2-inch digital instrument panel, and SYNC 3 infotainment...

You are describing the new CUV model Ford will introduce soon, which will sit between the EcoSport & Escape.

From the Ford's UK site.

Non-ST-Line 2018 Euro EcoSport. Most likely a Titanium or Titanium S.

Are they making one? Price-wise, I think there isn't much room between the EcoSport and Escape/Kuga, specially in the US.
