Ford needs to get at least 30miles or 50km of range to qualify for incentives in China, so they are going for the bare minimum. Coming so late with PHEVs when EVs are beginning to flood the segment, 50miles should have been the target so that Ford could stand out.
2013 C-Max Energi offered about 20 miles of range, and 7 years later Ford is only able to offer 10 additional miles of range. With the average daily commute at about 40 miles according to Ford's own data, this is an underachievement. This means the owner would need to plug in twice a day to use the limited 30 miles of range......not gonna happen.
Clearly, this is Fords attempt to keep the ICE engine in play so that maintenance and repair are needed and dealerships continue their revenue stream. With 70% of the dealership's revenue coming from maintenance and repair.
This Escape looks better, less SUV more crossover/5-door than the last, but the technology is still old school which is not good enough for the year 2020 and the new generation of consumers.
