Re: 2020 Escape

New Escape like the new RAV4 are compact SUVs and won't be going 3 row. That's a different segment. FYI...new RAV4 just moved up to a 105 inch wheelbase like current Escape.

Whatever that is looks smaller than current Escape, lower and more sporty.....which could indicate electrification.

If that is indeed the next Escape, I find it odd that Ford did not take this opportunity to make it look more like its bigger SUVs, this appears to be another variation of its compact car design.

I guess I'm one of the few that like how the original Escape's styling was related to its bigger SUV family members.

PS: I actually like its styling.

This looks like the subcompact cuv we should have had instead of the Ecosport that will sit below Escape.

Re: 2020 Escape

If anything the Edge would gain an extra 2 seats before this does.

Looks more like a raised rebodied compact Focus than an actual subcompact.
The underrated EcoSport (and the Renegade) on the other hand are probably the two most capable B-segment SUVs.

A 7-seater Edge might be too close to the Explorer in the North American market. In China it's normal for them to have overlapping models.

Re: 2020 Escape

Having a third row that is only big enough for kids or very small humans, is OK. In fact, you can often make them 3 wide. Kids love sitting back there away from adults, in their own little area. You would need to allow 2nd row to adjust forward a bit. But I do not think they should change dimensions of the Escape.

With the next Explorer in a RWD architecture, a FWD 7 seats Edge must be welcome in a USA avid for SUVs/crossovers.

The next Escape/Kuga needs to replace the current one and the next-to-die C-Max. This "small" prototype could be the replacement for the C-Max... The question is if the C-Max replacement is the "small Bronco" (Maverick) or other vehicle

just.to.be.clear - in CHINA, the Edge already offers this^that 3-row version
( btw, that might be the best pic I've seen of one )

imho,
this camo-ette looks near-exactly like
-- the Focus-based Fiesta-replacement I've been speculating about OR
-- a bargain-basement active-variant of the Maverick (whatever that actually is)
assuming those can't be one-&-the-same//under their skin
Wonder if this comparo by 'akirby' @ BON is visible to "non-BONers"? ....RSVPlease

Re: 2020 Escape

I was thinking due to ever increasing safety regs they moved away from a 3rd for the smaller SUVs.

Re: 2020 Escape

I also think this is a Fiesta crossover. The Ecosport is too small and should be viewed as a Ka/Figo crossover.
The vehicle in the pictures above seems to sit in between the Ecosport and the Escape, just like the Fiesta with respect to the Ka and the Focus.
Besides, rumors indicate the next generation Ka/Aspire/Ecosport is going to use the "Mahindra platform", so a "CrossFiesta" should appear within the C2 platform, if the Fiesta is eventually going that way too.

The car shown here is the new Skoda Kamiq (VW T-Cross) and it looks to be the size of this new Ford.
