I wonder if Ford has the perfect name for an Electric or Hybrid performance truck that would make sense...? Oh, wait, Lightning! One of the most iconic F150's ever and still talked about today. It's time to bring back the F150 Lightning and electrify it = perfect match.
Ford just took the Model E name so Tesla could not have it(S-E-X-Y). But Ford can't use it because it's part of Teslas naming convention. Ford may have used Model ? many, many years ago, but anything Model ? globally today belongs to Tesla if it's electric with consumer marketing.
It would be great if something called the Mach-E from Ford would be a next gen top of the line Mustang EV. But thats another two years out and looking at Ford's direction, it may just be a hybrid F-150 pick-up.
For a long time we have not talked more about the new "Mustang inspired performance crossover EV". Typical of Ford and its long, very long periods of development of its vehicles. Now we have news that possibly, just possibly, It debuted at LA Autoshow. It is not known if it will do it completely, as a production vehicle or as a concept. The truth is that it seems that soon we will know something of a car that we had almost forgotten ...
...I assumed LA a while back as they said it would be shown this year and that show is in the biggest EV market outside China.
They are taking their sweet time with it. I also assume, then, that it will likely be this time or later next year before it hits a showroom floor. So, we’re likely still 12-15 mo away from a product to sell. By then, they’ll be selling against Model Y. Not the best timing.
The ~4 year development cycle for an all new product is typical for most automakers. We all keep griping, but it's not really proper.
The last two times I leased a Ford product, I really wanted a Mustang GT, but all I have to do is sit in one and remeber that it is so not practical. Making something desirable and practical, will benefit sales for sure. Can't wait to see what it looks like, and I don't mind that Autocar image above.
And I agree with LA autoshow in a few months. That times quite well with their late 2020 launch as a MY21 product.
Closely following that Mach will be the F150 BEV. I am most curious how that will sell.
So with China relaxing their BEV demands for future automakers, and working with suppliers who will be including ICE for propulsion for decades to come, I think Ford was wise to attack this uncertainty the way they always do, conservatively. Ford has the benefit of many years of hybrid experience, where others have effectively none, and instead are going all in on BEV. Ford is wise to recognize that there remains a need for an all the above approach, rather than an all or nothing and quickly approach. Only one of those approachs can literally put you out of business.
Coupe crossover huh. Very interesting. One of my favorite all time Ford products was a 2 door Bronco II. So much fun to drive. Mine looked just like this, same color and wheels but slightly smaller tires.
A new render of the Mach E ( Will this be the name? I dont like it...). Is a coupe crossover with 4 doors very similar in profile as the test car in the spy pics. Too much Mustang in the details IMO. I think the profile is correct, the details not.
The front needs to be a precursor to the next Mustang, not one using the same basic look from the last generation.
I do want a grill, even if it is juat a darkened area with chrome slats and an outline. If it looks anything like a Tesla, I'd vomit.

I know the Mach E will be the anti-Tesla EV crossover. Will be a vehicle with passion. I'm understanding now why Ford took the Mustang as inspiration to make its first modern EV
They should call it the Mark E Mark.
Mark Wahlburg can replace that other dipshite
