The Ford 3.5L makes 290 hp (@6500 RPM) and 255 ft.lbs (@4000 RPM), so I'm thinking it would "feel" a lot more like the 4.0, than the 4.7. I'm sure the gearing on a 2011 is going to be a lot more gas-friendly than the 2003 as well. There is a certain competitor that offers a 5.3L V8 standard that whups all these aforementioned engines...
Thank you jardee! YOu are spot on. I thank you sir.

This will be a tought sale for me

I have been a bit skeptical about the 3.5 carrying this much weight around. Does it have to rev high to get the job done and is it noticeable or do you even notice?
Regarding the speedo, my guess is just that that was the easiest way for them to get all the technology crammed into the gauge cluster. As the picture below shows, they have a PRNDM gear identifier next to the speedo (while the labels by the actual shifter do not change colors depending on your gear, which I think is stupid), which mimics the north-south orientation of the shifter. That's the only thing I can come up with:

Well, for whatever reason, the D3s (Five Hundred, Freestyle, Taurus, Taurus X, Flex) have never been properly advertised/marketed until the new Taurus and upcoming Explorer. The guy (from Ford/Michigan) did say that the one he was driving was built 2 years ago, which would've been 2008-ish, right when the Flex was being released. This makes me think they limited Flex's exposure somewhat since they knew they were having this Explorer come out perhaps? I dunno, but it stinks that so many people have missed out on great vehicles because of a lack of marketing. And sure, I know Flex is definitely a love-it or hate-it vehicle, but still.

Re: Saw and Drove a 2011 Explorer

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention in my opening post. I did not like how the hood didn't have hydraulic struts/arms/whatever-you-want-to-call-them and commented to the Ford guy that was there with the cars from Michigan. He voluntarily said that things like that would be on the Lincoln version which is probably coming, so it's not just us throwing it out there that Lincoln will get one - they're actually considering/developing one.

Re: Saw and Drove a 2011 Explorer

I don't know if it'll be called Aviator, but it certainly seems in the cards. Hmmm, that might explain the Explorer's lack of the 3.5L EB motor too....

They could call it MKA if they keep this silly naming scheme

There were those spy shots of a "Explorer" mule with a Lincoln front end.
