All-new Ranger gets its worldwide premiere in Sydney

Bold, powerful and confident, the all-new Ford Ranger makes its world debut at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. The new face of Built Ford Tough for compact pickup truck customers in 180 markets around the world, Ranger is the result of an all-new global compact truck platform developed in Australia
Ranger delivers an enhanced pickup ownership experience with more power and excellent fuel economy from a new engine family, more capability than ever with exceptional towing and payload capacity, and new levels of driving quality
The show also marks the Australian debut for the amazing Ford Focus RS, which is poised to establish a new benchmark for performance. Only 315 examples of the sought-after hot hatch will be sold, and the show may be the best place to lay eyes on one standing still

SYDNEY, Australia – Ford is preparing to take the wraps off a comprehensively redesigned, new-generation compact pickup developed in Australia for sale in 180 global markets. The worldwide premiere of the all-new Ford Ranger is certain to be the big news of this year’s Australian International Motor Show, where it will be unveiled on October 15, 2010.

The all-new Ranger is the latest in a wave of global products driven by the ONE Ford strategy. Designed and engineered at Ford’s Campbellfield product development and Geelong proving ground facilities, and based on a new global compact truck platform, Ranger has been transformed to assert true pickup truck leadership.

“Australia has played a leading role in the development of this latest global Ford product,” said Joe Hinrichs, president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa. “Ranger is symbolic of how our great product development capability is being leveraged by the ONE Ford plan like never before.”

The taut, toned new design of the all-new Ford Ranger establishes a powerful presence on the motor show stage. It will be the first time for the public to see the next-generation Ford compact pickup without its camouflage.

New Ranger prototypes – disguised under heavy black padding, tape and decals to obscure their true identity – have been shot by automotive spy photographers all over the world, as development units clocked more than 1 million kilometres of testing in the toughest conditions, from the Outback to the deserts of the Middle East to the Alps in Europe.

Now, under the lights at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, the covers will come off to reveal a dazzlingly contemporary new look for the future of Ford Ranger pickup truck capability. It makes a powerful promise – backed by Ford’s Australian and global expertise – to owners around the world.

From impressive gains in power and fuel economy – the result of its new engine family – to outstanding pickup truck capability that includes exceptional towing and payload capacity, the next-generation Ford Ranger emerges as a clear segment leader. It not only builds on the tremendous Ranger heritage of capability, but it also gives owners a spacious, comfortable, feature-filled interior and sophisticated driving experience that they would expect only from a car.

Re: All-new Ranger gets its worldwide premiere in Sydney

SYDNEY -- The company today is showing the first image of our all-new global Ford Ranger pickup truck that will debut at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October.

Following is a brief Q&A with Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of Global Product Development.

Q. What does the new Ranger represent in terms of our global product development goals?
A. The debut of Ranger is another important milestone. Our goal has been to take our expertise in our product development centers worldwide and put it to use for our global markets. We’ve seen Fiesta and next-generation Focus developed in Europe, and now our talented product development team in Australia leads development on this Ranger, which eventually will be on sale in Asia Pacific, Europe and South America.

Q. What is our tie to Mazda on this product?
A. The new Ranger is on a brand-new platform jointly developed by Ford and Mazda. Engineers from both companies worked together to ensure the DNA of each brand is fully incorporated.

Q. What stands out for you about the product?
A. As with all our new vehicles, we are delivering on our promise for true product excellence. More details will come out next month, but Ranger will offer everything truck customers expect and more: Power and capability, bed and cab space and utility, outstanding fuel economy, as well as interior and smart features that absolutely take the driving experience to a new and unexpected level for trucks.

Q. Where will we build Ranger?
A. For now, we’ve announced Ranger will be built at AutoAlliance in Thailand and in our Silverton plant in South Africa. More news will come down the road. Those plants begin production in mid-2011.

Q. Why won’t we this sell Ranger in North America?
A. That’s one of the questions employees ask me most frequently. There are a few reasons behind our decision. The compact pickup market in the U.S. has been declining for more than 15 years, having gone from almost 8 percent of the industry in 1994 to just more than 2 percent through August this year. So we have decided to prioritize our investment in full-size pickups and continue to develop F-150 in all areas – including outstanding fuel economy.

Indeed, we are just now launching an all-new engine lineup for the F-150 that improves the fuel efficiency of the F-150 line-up by 20 percent. And we are offering the F-150 XLT Custom Package with the all-new 3.7-liter V6 engine aimed at the entry-level personal use buyer. This new F-150 series will be ideal for those Ranger owners interested in a pickup. For those Ranger customers interested more in affordable transportation than specifically a truck, we now either have or soon will offer many new affordable vehicles including the Fiesta, Focus, 7-passenger Grand C-MAX and the Transit Connect.

One additional important element of our decision was that this Ranger is bigger than our current product, which we’ll build through the 2011 model year, and moves much closer in size to the current F-150. So its use here would become even more limited, especially when compared to the increasingly fuel- efficient
F-150.

Q. Why don’t we sell F-150 in other places then?
A. We feel F-Series customers are unique to North America, but would be too large a vehicle for other parts of the world. The sizes of the powertrains are also unique to North America.

Does he really think this?

"For those Ranger customers interested more in affordable transportation than specifically a truck, we now either have or soon will offer many new affordable vehicles including the Fiesta, Focus, 7-passenger Grand C-MAX and the Transit Connect. "

Yea, all those Ranger customers will go after a Fiesta...

/sarcasm

Load of crap!

I move small furniture from time to time, and I have been borrowing a truck for it... things like small book cases and coffee tables... a Ranger would have been perfect for me... but instead Ford is telling me I have to get an F-150??? overkill a Fiesta?? what the ****??

I've been happy with most of Fords decisions lately, but they are really missing the boat on this one. It really ticks me off that the only modern small or mid sized truck is a freaking Toyota.

imho, Ford is in a bind with the new Ranger.
If they brought it here, it'd sell for about/at-least the same as a base v6 F-150
and that'd mean they'd have to stock twice as many parts & mechanics would have to learn an entire new platform,
as well as divide sales which would cut the F-150's advantages of volume;
so it'd be less profitable than having just the F-150
even if combined sales would be a bit higher.

That said, it won't surprise me if the nextgen F-150 incorporates-or-adapts-to the T6 frontend design
as well as the weight savings we've already heard about
so they can not only offer a semi-T6 truck in the U.S. (+ variants maybe)
but also a semi-F-150 in the RotW.

&
in looking at the youtube VIDEO (captures below)
the T6 Ranger DOES look closeR in size to the F-150 than I thought from older spypix

[ 2 ] - [ 3 ] - [ 4 ] - [ 5 ] - [ 6 ]

Ford says it won't sell new Ranger pickup in US
Ford says it won't sell new Ranger small pickup in North America because market has shrunk
