2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Spy Photos
The 662-hp beast returns with a sleeker shape.

What It Is: The high-performance variation of the new-for-2015 Ford Mustang, which we believe will keep its Shelby GT500 moniker. In light of the expected return of the Shelby GT350, we hear those in Dearborn are wary of two Shelby-branded offerings in the lineup diluting the badgeís equity, and are looking into changing the more powerful carís name to SVT Cobra. We donít expect this name change to happen, but many monikers from high-performance Mustangs past are being considered for resurrection. If youíre wondering whether this is a GT350, well, that model isnít expected to arrive for a few years yet, so itís safe to assume this is a GT500.

The Z28 is running around on 305s and the new, much lighter GT*** will run on 295s!! All that rubber played a large roll in getting the fat f'ck Z28 around the ring as fast as it did, this 'Stang should be world class awesome!

If they really do have the GT becoming as capable as the outgoing BOSS 302 (which was in one of the interviews), they should be able to get the Shelby into rare territory, indeed. I just hope Ford has some answer for GM's magnetic shocks, which seem to be pretty good lipstick on their pig of a Camaro.

Their Z28 didn't need the magnetic suspension to put up its ring times. I would much prefer a car that doesn't need technological magic to compete!

Looking closer at those pictures it appears to have an air intake on the hood where previous GT500s had air extractors. That should be interesting as I don't see any chance that Ford reverts to non-functional hood vents or intakes on this car.

The GT500 already matched the Boss 302 for handling in many ways, and was faster than the Boss 302 on all but the most technical of tracks.

Would an S550 based MK9 R Label not be a notable halo car for the Lincoln brand?
