That same motor producing the minimum 650hp in the much heavier Mustang would be highly strung, stressed, and possible peaky. No, in the muscle car application the extra capacity of the 8 is needed to compete. M6G are saying the capacity may even be higher than 5.2. I can understand that if Ford are out to make a statement without running the risk of using a highly strung motor.

What we know is in base form the Coyote is still one of the most efficient normally aspirated engines, and I'm including many exotics. Voodoo raises that bar another level. It's VE is impressive. All of that without direct injection. Now, imagine having access to that sort of know-how and tech and adding forced induction and direct injection.

If Ford are consistent the GT500's engine will be totally unique - only sharing bore centres - which means gloves are off. GM/FCA/whoever will have nowhere to hide.

I also expect the 10sp auto to be an option.

And in the instance where Ford feel like they want to hunt P1s and LaFerraris they could "drop" that donk in the GT, but that's just pub talk.
FWIW I've kinda divorced the idea of the 3.5TT as @wingsnut already basically confirmed a TT5.0. Given the power that this will produce, that's the safest option.

Tbh I will love it far too much no matter what.

If this comes out with AWD, I suggest GT550, as in 110% of the original. 700-800HP with AWD on a Coyote TT would be sweet. Actually, it will be SWEET either way!

How do you suggest ordering a GT500 when it to release in 2018 without the dealer adjusted markup? My local dealer will not accept pre-orders for the GT500! They want the $25K premium plus the profit from the MSRP. Go to Canada?

Ford management still has blinders on and does not see any valve in a AWD sport car! They only know muscle cars - cars that go in a straight line from a stop and have loud exhaust noise!

How many companies offer exotic, high speed, high dollar AWD sports cars? Not exactly a huge market for them.

Ford is simply protecting it's Mustang legacy, and pleasing it's fans.

Thank goodness for those blinders.

They can still keep the legacy alive and offer an option for AWD. Those who want a RWD GT500 can still order one and keep the legacy. You seem to have the same blinders as Ford! Ford seems to always be reactionary now a days! Why not a four door hatchback GT500? Because that would go against the 1964 standard? LOL!

Fair enough, offering something out of the norm would be a benefit to some.

Using that same logic, I say, why not make the Mustang a wagon. Or heck, turn it into a pickup. What kind of blinders are they wearing to not see that some might like that too?

All has been done to the first gen. AWD coupes by Ford, Pickup and wagon conversions. Whatever they build, some one will want.

By all means utilise it's platform for a shooting brake but it would need to have very little resemblance to the Mustang itself. Add AWD, electric motors, a 1000hp and a moon roof if you like as well. Heck, that may even pass as a Lincoln. That would definitely be a great product but keep Mustang as an affordable, powerful coupe.
