Interesting thing, the base GT500 with rear +2 seats weighs 4,171 lbs, so the leaked 4,225 lbs figure is not the actual base weight.
The Carbon Fiber Track Package's Carbon Fiber wheels should save approximately 50 lbs, this package also gets rear-seat delete which should shave an extra 45 to 50 lbs.
“Think of the naturally aspirated, manual-transmission-only GT350 as Ford's own Porsche 911 GT3 and the Shelby GT500 as Ford's 911 GT2 RS, and you'll understand both how similar and different these two cars are. Yeah, we're comparing Mustangs to Porsche's best sports cars. The Shelby GT500 is that good.“
"...but but but...C/D hates everything but BMW and Honda!! They HATE Ford!!"
Sorry, I have to mock that stuff. Yes, they're as flawed as any other car mag (their reviews of stripped Explorers vs optioned-up Kias/Hyundais is pretty annoying), but a lot of the bad press Ford got was, well, earned. Some people forget just how ridiculous Ford's "leadership" got through the whole Trotman/Nasser/PAG years, with the Crown Vic and the Mustang on platforms old enough to vote and/or drink, and with Lincoln marginalized into a fluffier variant of the murdered Mercury.
I'm hoping that the new Bronco, Fusion, and what-not will combine with the VW partnership into a truly great era for the company.
At the official media launch Ford organized in Las Vegas for the GT500, REVan Evan did the quarter mile in an already impressive 10.89 seconds at 130 mph (209 kph), but he later had the opportunity to improve his time. In a private test conducted at the Bradenton Motorsports Pack in Florida, he managed to shave off 0.28 seconds compared to his initial run and ended up with a time of 10.61 at 133 mph (214 kph) with a completely stock car.
