Mercury Sable SHO Wagon

I have seen several SHObles on the Taurus club all were done by fans never one done by a Ford Engineer. This looks awesome and I would love to rock this!

Re: Mercury Sable SHO Wagon

Great article. I never understood why Ford/Mercury never actually made a Sable SHO or at least made the SHO engine an available option on top end Sables. I've always thought the fourth generation Sable would have been pretty sweet in SHO form.

They were originally it was going to be called the Sable LTS. They made an LTS in 94 and 95 and it had SHO seats SHO suspension and a floor shifter but no SHO engine if I remember correctly. They backed out because they were afraid it would steal sales from the SHO.

Re: Mercury Sable SHO Wagon

^You're right Andrew I remember the Sable LTS. No V8 though. More luxury than sport. Course I guess that was maybe for the best seeing the traditional Mercury buyer preferred comfort/luxury over sportiness.

Yep well also remember 94-95 was still the 2nd gen so it would have been a Yamaha V6 not the Yamaha V8. That didn't come till 96

Re: Mercury Sable SHO Wagon

Sadly, by then the rampant mismanagement that would kill Mercury was kicking in. It really does seem like the Merkur debacle-which should have been Mercury's chance to really integrate the "One Ford" approach very early on-flicked the switch and made Mercury little more than a trim level until its death.

interesting hypothesis^, Zan

tho there was so Much FLAILING during circa 1990's

I tend to think there was a cabal within FoMoCo that was behind it;
eventually forcing Merc to go on haitus...

...wonder WHO would've been against trying Merkur, got butt-hurt, and swore revenge??
:tinfoil-hat:
Hope they're DEAD now

I whole-heartily agree it is awesome, but ... it's not my cup of tea. LOL

That noted, I have a Matchbox model of that generation Mercury Sable wagon ... with that very color scheme ... does that count?!
