What is a Mercury car some might ask?

Quote:
Peter Horbury, Ford's U.S. design director, offered this explanation as to what Mercury represents:

"It's a Ford, plus more. It's created for people who appreciate a contemporary lifestyle, minimalist interiors and contemporary furniture sitting on the 58th floor of an apartment block in Chicago."

Explaining that differences between a Ford and Mercury are cosmetic, Horbury again used the analogy of an apartment building to justify the brand's slight price premium over a Ford.

"A 50-year-old couple moves into one apartment and a 22-year-old couple moves in next door. Within a week they'd be different - colors, decoration, materials, furnishing. So there are enough possibilities in using those things to make those differences work."

After a week in a Mercury Sable, I understand.

my more aggravated comment is Here
but
I'll add >here<
that
The goal needs to be for that 20-something couple to be YEARNING to be able to accomplish that same level of seemingly-effortless-sophistication & Style that their more-experienced neighbors (hopefully) have acquired

I percieve Mercury's as Ford's version of something above the Chevy LTZ trims, What does Ford call its LTZ trim? SEL?
But really, other than the Voga colors, its still an SEL?

Re: What is a Mercury car... I'd be GLAD to 'SPLAIN!!!!

Mbuku, tho it's hard to notice,
the Sable has All Unique sheetmetal from the A-pillar forward

IF Fomoco can afford to keep that up,
all that's needed is a slightly 'freer-hand' (holding the design pencil or mouse...
...OR approval stamp!)
& Merc will be Much More Distinct(ive) than a trim-level or Pkg

ps
to some of us, it's Chevy that calls Its SEL (or maybe LTD?) an LTZ

Mercury = the IDEAL BRAND

Voga stylish, yes
VOGA Fancy, not quite
imho

personally I still like the rather mimimal-ist Bauhaus-ish sorta-techie approach...
...for a base trim

edit
sorry if that sounds like splitting hairs
basically believe we're in agreement
just
with Mercury (IMHO) very fine distinctions can make a big diff.

Re: What is a Mercury car some might ask?

I think Mercury is a Ford vehicle but upscale for the young crowds that want to afford it before spending more on an import. I bought Mercury because it was a high class piece of domestic engineering at its best. I have always owned brand spanking new Fords so a step up from that is Mercury. My next step up is going to be a Lincoln when the time comes. Obviously I will be seeing LMdealer when the time comes.
