Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

Thanks 2b2.

Ok thanks for the info. on the S-max. I guess it would be considered mid-size. I'll have to change that.

So it's called micro instead of sub-compact?

2001 Mercury Sable LS Premium - Medium Royal Blue
2008 Mercury Sable Premier - Light Ice Blue
2014 Buick Lacrosse Leather Group - Quicksilver

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

^ well, I called my littlest Mercs "micro" ... Sub-Compact is quite correct afaik

then re-arranging by probable overall lengths:

- Messenger - FWD compact sporty/luxury sedan/coupe/convertible/wagon.
- & Mariner - FWD/AWD compact luxury crossover.
- Meteor - FWD/AWD sub-compact luxury crossover. (similar in size to the Buick Encore)

And maybe in time if everything goes well the Cougar could make a return as a low volume halo car for Mercury.

LINCOLN LINEUP
- Navigator - As is for now, but needs a redesign in the near future. Would love to see an available V8 in the Navigator again.
- Continental - Full-size RWD V8 ultra luxury sedan.
- Mark Series - RWD V8 luxury touring coupe/convertible Lincoln's halo car.
- MKT - Needs a redesign, but remain in the same class
- MKZ - As is.
- MKX - As is.

In my opinion this would make for a perfect Mercury-Lincoln portfolio.
I quite Agree
-- would add a sub-compact Car to the Meteor (my "micros")
-- Cougar (if Rwd; ..."C5/XR5" if Not imho & could be on Milan platform)
and would plethorize Lincoln with
-- swb Aviator-Sport (larger "Aviator" = MKT replacement)
-- swb mkX-Sport (Macan sized)
-- LincStangs: sportsedan (3er) & coupecabrio (almost 6er)
-- small-ish BEV/Plug-In; maybe LincStang based, maybe Focus-GrandC-Max

Wink Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

since I've been studying the new MKX's trim-levels...
Announcing
Mission:2020's first Mercury Price Increase
...just on Options&Pkgs

Features/Options/Packages are *identical* on every SIZE & type of model, producing a uniform +$8,000 MSRP spread from each base vehicle to its fully loaded version ( up from $5,500 )
Here's what's included in the experimental 'trim' levels ... collapsed into just 2 packages & 2 options (though electronic gizmos that can be made snap'n'lock dealer-installable could alter this plan)(edit: since all these Mercurys are hybrids, they can all have 110V outlets, right? ... center console & a flippable one in the rearseat armrest/passthru to trunk).

standard features:
• sportbacks get Terrain Mgmt, also all 3 have a separately opening rear window in their powered, foot-activated hatches
• all models are equipped with DriveControl "by Lincoln";
and • adjusting height suspension • undercarriage airflow panels as well as grille shutters • Adaptive (turning) headlights • Adaptive Cruise Control • programmable driver/car interface • docking station for bring-along tech gizmos** • Intelligent (keyless) Access • Remote Start • Ambient Lighting • wiper/HL co-ordination • Heated Steering Wheel & seats • power/memory driver seat & side mirrors & • power slide/recline front passenger seat • automatic climate with rear vents • power doorlocks/windows all 1-touch up/down • side window shades (behind B-pillars) • basic Head-Up display (speed/tach/E-mode?)
• upholstery: alcantara with Leather bolsters & armrests; all "natural" or black/silver (see attached)
• paint (6 colors see attached, #1-3,6-8)
silverIce.-------Steel.---------blackPearl
uraniumRed-...copperIce----Stealth(dk.coolgray)
((question: heated & heated/cooled seats by region?))
((Push Button Shift NOT included: Lincoln-only
also NO MyMercTouch ... dunno about Sync3))

2 standalone options:
XL moonroof Opt______($1,000)
(w/ fixed glass rear roof-panel(s) even on sedans/'coupes')

Leather Opt___________($1,000)
full seating surfaces & door inserts (see swatches attached)
Adobe (reddish tan)
Parchment (offwhite)
Ebony (with paint co-ordinated piping or accents? (new attachment))

2 packages:
tech1 pkg____________($3,000)
• full (configurable!) Head-Up display • Rear View Camera • Auto Headlites & Highbeams • Rain-Sensing Wipers • Blind Spot Information System w/Cross Traffic Alert • sound system 2 (w/ noise cancelling) • power rear window shade • full power front passenger seat (+Tilt/Ht/Lumbar)
((cooled seats?))
additional paint: ultraBlue & whitePearl (#4,5 of 10 colors see attached)

tech2 pkg ___________($6,000 SPecialOrder only)
techPLUS_____________($8,000 inclds Leather & moonroof)
• 'NightVision' • surround cameras • Active Park Assist with Forward&Rear Sensing System • Lane Keeping System • Collision warning system and pedestrian avoidance system • sound system 3 • Multi-Contour Front Seats with Active Motion™ & power-adjust front headrests
• auto-fold power rear headrests?
((Navigation?))
additional paint: Patina & ForeverGreen (#9,10 see attached)

Imho it's very important to have as few 'from-the-factory' versions as possible. (edit: below is a idea for also reducing the number of versions stocked by dealers while maintaining choices as special-orders)
The idea for features is that everything 'you' can't live without is Standard
and the packages add 2 levels of "wants/wishes".
Since none of these Mercury vehicles are duplicated by Lincoln (or Ford) the highest package, 'techPlus' must include EVERYthing 'you' desire - let me know if I forgot anything...
the new pricing allows for a version at EVERY $1k pricepoint
ex: at $30k base = Focus-based Cortina/Capri?
$31k = with Leather or XLmoonroof (special orders only?)
$32k = both (special order only?)
$33k = Tech1 pkg
$34k = Tech1 pkg with Leather or XLmoonroof (special orders only?)
$35k = Tech1 pkg with both
$36k = Tech2 pkg (special order only)
$37k = Tech2 pkg with Leather or XLmoonroof (special orders only)
$38k = Tech2 pkg with both = TechPLUS Pkg

I like these even price-steps So Much that if my estimates are still too low,
think it'd be very in keeping with Mercury's "tailored" approach to customer satisfaction-delight-surprise
to keep the same porportions
(( I haven't ruled out "extra" options but need to figure out [BL] first ))

and
thinking of an entry-pkg Hybrid for the Cortina, Capri, & MiniSport
with minimal batteries 1.4 -to- 3.37kWh or maybe even just capacitors,
perhaps smaller eletric motors (~75hp?)(on UN-petrol-drive wheels for Awd),
& using a specially tuned 1.5EB plus a simplified MODE selector (vs plug-in)
atkinson = ~90hp / non-turbo = ~135hp / lo-pressure turbo = ~185hp / hi-turbo = ~240hp

wondering how I feel about resurrecting trim names?
$30k base ......... "?"
$33k Tech1 ....... "Premier"
$35k Tech1+ ..... "Premier-L"
$38k TechPLUS ..."Ultimate"

Jan'16 - emphatic NO = ONE trimlevel + 2Pkgs,2opts

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

^ Great stuff 2b2. I really like your ideas I can tell they are well thought out and heart felt. Love to see someone so dedicated to the return of MERCURY and just MERCURY in general.

Also a beautiful array of interior/exterior color selections.

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

semi-belated Thanks, Thomas
esp about the colors
which I came up with a loooong time ago - the "paint palette" goes back to 2005

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

THE approaching DEBUT is making me wonder:
IF Lincoln is able to successfully renaissance the C O N T I N E N T A L Name,
could C O U G A R re-incarnate too?!?

(something I've considered near-impossible
ie practically no one could be satisified)

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

^ I'd be easily satisfied with a new Cougar or any new Mercury. I feel like if these new Lincoln's succeed that gives Mercury a better chance to return as the true premium entry level luxury brand it's supposed to be.

I would love to see the Cougar return as a RWD V8 Luxury Coupe it could easily be done based on the Mustang platform but if they didn't want to do that an AWD EcoBoost V6 Cougar would be fine I think. Either way I really don't care I just want new MERCURY'S back on the market and road again.

First come up with those colors in 2005? Still beautiful though especially the dark blue.

the v8 is a large part of my qualms (as you pick up on as well )
tho I've had a way-around the Rwd issue = CD4+"3" Poll;
really prefer a LincStang VS using S550 for Merc - assuming it's stretched

there are verbal color descriptions** you may find interesting on my old website: The Mercury Files , a precursor to FiN's Mission:MERCURY which in turn, is a precursor to this current thread...
...the paints are accurate, the interiors (& model-variants) have since been considerably simplified

** meant to counter the unreliable color-reproduction of various montiors, esp flatscreens

2b2 what if it wasn't exactly the return of "Cougar", just the "XR7". Perhaps:

T H E N E W L I N C O L N C O N T I N E N T A L X R 7

(along with Black Label and Red Label the XR7 could be another trim level
