Exactly, Scford
I may have a few nitpicks with parts^
but Yes, my point was the expectations of a car called COUGAR being probably impossible to meet, even being contradictory
& in the proposals made in this Mission, I even used XR5 (and XR3)

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

I personally always wanted to see an XR Line of sporty/performance models for Mercury. Similar to Cadillac's V-Sport & Volvo's R Series.

Here is what I'd personally like to see

Cougar XR-8
Cougar XR-7
Sable XR-6
Milan XR-4
Messenger XR-4 (Mercury's Compact Offering)
Mariner XR-4

Just my idea though.

my main engineering objective for Mercury has been electrification for LONG time
so
I'm v.glad you said V-Sport instead of V-Series

I would prefer using just "XR" with a model Name, no number, for a sportTrim
&
restrict the "XR#" to top trim of a specific sportModel, like my XR3 & XR5**
sorta like having Cobra replace Mustang (iirc/afaik)

**which also Happens to match the number of their doors

I still love most of this interior ... as a serving suggestion for the Merc Sportbacks

(( and still think that's a ripoff of a Merc steeringwheel ))

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

2b2 you might disagree with me on this. But I see GMC as General Motors MERCURY even down to the two tone leather interiors.

In my opinion GMC Denali interiors as well as Buick interiors are everything Mercury interiors should be.

Edit: The restyled 2016 GMC Terrain Denali even uses Satin Aluminum finishes on it's exterior.

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

^ oh, I don't disagree AT ALL, Thomas
especially for DENALI
(at least what I hear about it)
my only specification (not even a quibble) is that some of the Buick (not Opel) dash trim is a bit sleezy imho = the plastichrome

Re: Mission2020: The RETURN of MERCURY!

current ideal lineup price-graph
with new swb (short wheelbase variant) idea
& color coding for Hybrid, Plugins, & BEVs (green,lt.gray,dk.gray)

edit
just thinking maybe I shoulda labelled those Merc platforms:
A.M.P-large
A.M.P-medium
A.M.P-small

^ That's your opinion. If you're not interested in this topic & discussion you don't have to read about it. Please don't try to ruin it for those who are interested in it and have a love for Mercury.

Maybe when Mercury returns it should specialize in smaller premium/near luxury cars & crossovers. Mercury should compliment Lincoln by offering smaller vehicles not suited for the level of Lincoln luxury. I can see it now. I long for the day I see breaking news on here saying Ford Motor Company has announced the return of it's iconic Mercury brand.
which inspired me to look up the size of the Original 1992/3 Mondeo
_ovl____wlb____w____ht_
176.4 - 106.5 - 68.8 - 54.0 - 1992/3 ...estate = 182.3 ovl
179.4 - 106.5 - 68.9 - 54.0 - 1996 ......estate = 183.9 ovl

MUCH smaller than I imagined / that started out like my Cortina

....more later
