Ford exec says the Mustang platform could spawn additional models, possibly a Lincoln - report
Trevor Worthington told Motoring "If we chose to make a Lincoln version of the Mustang - I can't imagine ever doing that - but if somebody smarter than me decided to do that, then yeah you could use that architecture."

That doesn't appear to have the rearward cabin, nor does the A-pillar appear to be located as far back as it is on the Mustang. So if I'm right, and that is still S550 based it means they've decided to spend the extra money it would take to move hard points to ensure a proper S550 Lincoln. That would be ridiculously great news, that they would go to that length to get it right!!
Just a reminder, that Farley mentioned a white space Lincoln slated as a 2017 model, giving zero additional information. Take from that what you will. Mustang chassis is sooooo good, I seriously doubt they will not share it.

"There's a lot we can do with Mustang. I can't talk about the details at this moment, but there's a great heritage we can draw from and I guess I would just say 'stay tuned.'"
A Lincoln based on the Mustang platform is a must for Lincoln. Lincoln is looking for the younger affluent market, and a powerful, luxury Lincoln coupe and convertible would drive customers into their dealerships. As long as it is sexy and powerful looking.
But what else on the Ford side would they offer that could use the RWD Mustang platform? A 4-Door Mustang that would share the platform with the new Lincoln performance sedan, and let the new Taurus become Ford's new big luxury sedan for the rapidly growing older population?
Looking at timelines, if the white space Lincoln was for MY2017, that will launch in 2016, which means we won't see anything until early 2015.
Seriously, Lincoln needs to double their staff, so they can double up on product launches until Lincoln is where it should be.

No, just NO to a Mustang sedan. However, if they want to reverse the original Mustang's heritage and rather than building a Mustang off of the Falcon platform, they build a new Falcon sedan off of the new Mustang platform, well, they get my yes vote! And I'm sure the Aussie's would be accepting of it, even if it isn't home built for them!!
I'll be honest though, I don't see any reason to even build a new RWD sedan under the Ford name. Ford is a mainstream brand, the performance premium sedan market can, and IMO should, be left to Lincoln!

Im not sure if it will be sacrilegious, IMO the mustang could be used for a RWD sedan for lincoln, below the mkz to compete with the c class, 3 series, etc

It would only be sacrilegious if they actually built a Mustang sedan. To use the platform for another nameplate or even a Lincoln would be just fine with Jesus!!

Exactly, I can't see how they can justify NOT doing a second car off this platform. I see no need for a second Mustang with a different look, but a properly differentiated Lincoln coupe that's more luxury than sport? I'm all for it!
Back to a possible T-Bird revival (proper revival)...

^&^^&^^^ been thinking about a nextgen Falcon recently
imho it wouldn't have to be quite as big as the current
maybe about A/S5 size (which is one possibility for a LincStangCoupe,
the sportsedan should be closer to 3-series size, ie unstretched S550 imho)
so
a 'companion' 4-door Falcon could be 'twinned' with a Thunderbird that size - *IF* a Tbird could be a 4door too
just-imho

Just imagine what this will look like as a Lincoln.

just a beginning chop (about all I can do for now) 950x500
Just a few thoughts: First, if a Charger can be successful as a 4-door then I believe a T-Bird could as well. (no retro please). Next, why not use the Falcon name here as well as Australia? Last, what about an XR7, not Cougar, just the former high-end trim level with completely different top hat and interior from the Mustang?
