From Grand Central in 2012 on my way to the NYIAS

Kind of a mouthful but could work.

If this is true, Lincoln needs to come out with an official announcement about the name change, or this could hurt current MKZ sales. Not many consumers want to buy a discontinued vehicle.

What If the next Zephyr was a short wheelbase Continental with 4" less wheelbase and rear leg room.

I think the reality is most people won't even know about these rumors. And they can easily be explained - it's getting a name instead of "MKZ." They're not dropping the vehicle.

They will probably do their usual "we don't discuss future products" line and add "The MKZ is very important to our lineup"

If we are to go into classic names I like the Premiere name wish it wasn't a trim. I liked when Lincoln used 3 trims (Executive, Signature, Designer) If used today Designer would be replaced by BL. My favorite 'classic' name not being used now would be Aviator but that needs to be saved for the MKT replacement.

It wouldn't be crazy for them to call the Explorer-based crossover "Navigator Sport" like Land Rover does with the Range Rover/Range Rover Sport, and then to rename MKX Aviator when it gets a redesign. The MKX was originally going to be called the Aviator - the concept was labeled Aviator and production pictures of it badged Aviator were even released - before they decided to go to the MK_ scheme. This approach would save them from having to come up with another name.

That said, I do expect the Explorer-based model (and MKT replacement) to be called Aviator, with MKX being given some other name.

Yep MKX was Aviator at first but I think that was during a time when they didn't think they needed anything between that and the Navigator. I think the Explorer based one should get Aviator based on it's history though IMO.

yeahBut, I can see Lincoln having MORE CuvSuvs than C-X-Av-Navi-NvL, esp. X-Sport & AvSport

Yeah, I agree based on history, it would make more sense for the Explorer-based one to be called Aviator.
