I agree, the MKZ will definitely move down in size, I guess Lincoln doesn't want a Lexus situation with the similarly sized Lexus ES and GS with the smaller IS.
Driving my car I can tell you most definitely it is not a midsize car. As for the Z going down a size, maybe, or maybe they'll just come out with an entirely new car.
edit: yeah^^^ one way or a nother, the Z gets a new architecture
(as well as a Name, apparently)
I've been very reluctant to accept a 2-car lineup,
and Still wonder about a Rwd mid-size 4-door-coupe to replace the Z (Mark?);
but
I'm curious what sizes would work best/well for just a:
- smaller than current Z
- larger than current Conti
?
Lincoln "Mercury"? Sorry Rich but I expect that kind of talk from 2b2 not you; I'm very disappointed. (Sarcasm) :lmao:
Seriously, though Lincoln should in no way be connected to Mercury. We don't need any Lincoln "Cougars" or Lincoln "Milans" rolling around the streets.
Lincoln could use Mariner with no issue. Remember, all of us on this forum are more connected and knowledgeable than most when it comes to Ford/Lincoln. My guess is that, the majority of Americans won't have any clue that Mariner used to be a Mercury.
Mariner is the only name I'd advocate for Lincoln/the MKC. And that's only because it fits with the Navigator/Aviator theme and there doesn't seem to be a better alternative. Of course, that also means you'll still have to find a name for MKX, unless it's called Aviator Sport or something (alternatively, MKX could become Aviator, with the Explorer-based model being called Navigator Sport)..
I think Lincoln could get away with Mariner for MKC because it does fit the naming theme of the other SUVs and Crossovers, but you'd have to come up with something for MKX that makes sense. Originally MKX was suppose to be "Aviator", but Aviator makes more sense on the 3-row crossover below Navigator. But this naming scheme also gets cheesy pretty quickly.
I really don't want to see a Mercury name used on a Lincoln for obvious reasons. While Mariner fits in I'd pass, but perhaps they could use Messenger, I doubt many people remember that concept.
Hi all I'm new to the forum. My personal opinion as an avid Lincoln and Mercury fan and Mercury owner is if you're going to bring back Mercury's old nameplates and use them on new Lincoln's why not just breathe new life into Mercury. I really don't like the idea of recycling nameplate though.

Lincoln won't use the Focus-Escape for a carCar ALTHO/unless
whatever the Model-E is based-on could lead to a Lincoln, but afaik that could be a Cuv-ish not a carCar;
for those I'm still ½expecting ½hoping for a cD6 architecture that can go from Mustang to a-bit-bigger-than the current Conti...as well as an Aviator or 2...
edit: for a Z-name, still think I prefer ZODIAC over ZEPHYR
