Re: MKT Stays!

I think it will be removed in terms of everyday buyers. It might become special order only.

Re: MKT Stays!

Seems the Flex would be what it was always meant to be on CD6.....and it wouldn't cannibalize Explorer sales any more than it already does.
It would be sweet!

Read what I said. 2019 is the last model year for MKT. It may end up have a slight overlap with Aviator (production begins May 6, 2019, MKT is TBD), but the Ford 2019/2020 production schedule list has MKT (along with Flex, Taurus, and a few others) as not having production scheduled for 2020 MY.
spudz64 and Assimilator like this.

2009 Ford Flex Limited w/ AWD
Light Ice Blue/White Suede Roof | Med. Lt. Stone Interior | Vista Roof
2018 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

I did read what you wrote. I also read what Parker said, which is that the MKT will stick around for fleet customers for an undetermined amount of time. The fleet MKT has to be manufactured somewhere, so my argument was that if they're going to keep an assembly line open, why not build the model that can also be sold to Joe Consumer, too, while not conflicting with Lincoln's desired image? A Flex Platinum would make a fine limo, hearse or premium shuttle vehicle.

Re: MKT Stays!

The MKT will never again be seen on a Lincoln showroom floor since fleet sales are contractual. People are so used to seeing a MKT at the airport, etc., they won't know if it's a 2010 or a 2020 so Lincoln's "prestige status" will not be compromised. The only question of longevity is how it fits with Ford's manufacturing plant strategy.

Well both Flex and MKT don't have 2020 production, so they're both dying after 2019 according to that document.

Rebadging a Flex into a Lincoln would go completely against what they've been working toward the last 5+ years.

I'm suggesting just the opposite. The MKT doesn't fit the direction of the Lincoln brand at all. And it's homely. It should be euthanized soon. The far less polarizing Flex, on the other hand, could potentially serve the same role as the MKT in livery duty, while still appealing to consumers. The Flex already is a white space vehicle. And with the Explorer going RWD, the FWD Flex would offer less of an overlap than previously. A bad decision following a series of questionable ones.

So you're saying just drop MKT and leave Flex?

They're made at the same factory, same platform and powertrains - whenever one dies, the other dies with it. And that looks to be after 2019MY.

I love the Flex, but it's past its lifecycle (it's 10 years old for 2019) and would require a redesign to be worth keeping around.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Ford gave up on marketing and significant updates a long time ago, but it's still selling. If that doesn't indicate there's a market for it, I don't know what does. Heck, I'd double down and offer a 2-row version with a similar silhouette. Lower but a few inches longer than the Edge. I'm afraid crossover "coupes" don't have a future among mainstream brands. Real utility will always be in style.

I'm guessing most of Flex sales at this point are fleet sales.
