Exclamation New site look and software upgrade Feedback Thread

Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for FordInsideNews.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join FordInsideNews.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Hyundai, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.

https://www.fordinsidenews.com/forums/mygarage

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook, Twitter or Google+

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your FordInsideNews.com Team.

The details make or break design, and to that end the extra dividing line between the top most post on the main page with a little dead space above really catches my eye and looks out of place. Otherwise from what I see it looks great!

From a poster perspective this appears to be the best improvement! Generally speaking upgrades to existing sites can drive current users away when done poorly, I think you've avoided that possibility!

@SP1966 - Thanks for the feedback and we can still tweaks settings and iron out any bugs.

I think that area would display and add, are you using a pop up blocker or can you screen shot what you are looking at?

The divider just above the Expedition post is what I'm talking about.

As long as I'm being a pain I'll add a thought regarding the mobile version. The horizontal menu bar on top of the page really should change to a side menu when the client is mobile rather than being a double line of small, hard to tap links as it is now. It would also be better to lose the side margins on the forum for mobile and allow the full width the be utilized on the small screens!!

just tell me to zip it if you're not interested in my nagging!

LOL - no worries.

Screen shot, device, software, etc so I can share with the mobile team.

The gray menubar across the top should really be a "Hamburger" icon with either a drop down menu or a side menu for both ease of use and space conservation on mobile.

The big blue menu section above the actual thread is a HUGE waste of mobile space and also should be converted to a drop down menu!!

Neither is a deal breaker, but fixing both would certainly improve usability.

What phone, browser are you using and I agree.

Have you tried the enhanced mobile view or the AutoGuide.com App?

I just screenshotted that in Chrome on my Mac with Developer Tools open. It looks and works the same on my LG G2 with Chrome.

- is the [Thank] button/function gone for good? just asking

re: Win7Pro
- my signature extends way beyond my screen, post number/link too, in Firefox 41.0.1 with javascript disabled; tho sig OK in my profile ...Also my avatar shows in profile but not in posts
...All OK in IE 11.0.9600.18059 with javascript On

- in IE my attachments aren't showing: fullsize or thumbs, listing at bottom of post IS clickable
...in Firefox they DO show (& sized appropriately!): post#55

- just noticed in the Post Edit window, I'm seeing HTML instead of VB tags AND had to use P & BR code for line breaks ... which got changed in Preview to (lessthan,br,slash, greaterthan) = Firefox

.
