I think you would have the same features in both cars. The only difference would be the front and rear styling, different fake wood on the inside and other little minor differences. Hp and torque is the same for both cars. I guess it all depends on if you like the Mercurys styling on the outside better, the different gauges, and different colour packages and if you want to pay a little more for the car.

As things are today Mercury exists to give volume to the Lincoln Mercury dealer. Ford have said that they want to give the brand more diferentiation in the future and allow Mercury to have its own identity (i.e. like Mazda). The translation of that corporate mumbo-jumbo is that they will try again when they have the money.

Lets say that Mercury's purpose is to keep Lincoln alive and viable.

I wonder when Ford gets back on their feet if Lincoln will go global. I dont think it is working for Cadillac very well though.

Rome was not built in one day. Cadillac is only rolling out its second Generation of Semi Global models.. The Escalade and the 2008 CTS .. they may not even be a blimp on the radar screen, yet.. but.. in 20 years.. who knows what Cadillac will be if they stay consistent and improve?

Good point. They just need to keep building high quality products to win over the people who bought BMWs, Audis and Mercedes products(and lots more other makes). Do you know if the small car Cadillac sell in Europe (BLS I think) will be coming to NA?

With the CTS growing in size to BMW 5 Series.. I think BLS might have to come to N/A.
I think anything below the BLS (hopefully they take ity RWD) would water down the brand like Mercedes and BMW has done in Europe.

My opinion is Cadillac should never go below a V6 or below $30K. Both a Jaguar should also not go below these figures. That way.. They will have an exclusive leg up aganist BMW/Mercedes/Audi

Anyone knows when the new XLR is coming?

The only way I think for them to go below a V-6 is if the make a 4-cyl diesel. Otherwise like you said a V-6 should be standard on every car.

If GM does decide to continue with the XLR, it could be a possibility when the Zeta RWD platform comes. There are rumors that GM is developing a RWD Cadillac DTS, so maybe the XLR will be on a shortened platform.

Uf XLR went to a Saloon based set up.. it would loose its handling Edge over competation.. like Lexus SC and SL.
I think they should keep it based on the Corvette frame
