Re: Are the Chevy Attack Ads Helping Ram Sales?
But are people buying the F-150 because it's aluminum or because of other factors that may have nothing to do with Aluminum? I think Ford's goal has always been to minimize the fear surrounding Aluminum. I think there is some level of novelty to the Aluminum construction but I'm sure there are just as many detractors. But to most people, I don't think they care.
As for the commercial, I think it's only effective to Chevy costumers so it helps to keep them loyal, but otherwise I know most people are put-off by the ridiculousness of the scenario since most people protect their beds and don't treat it like a dump truck.
Chevy and RAM appear not to be going fully aluminum for their new 2019 trucks. Somebody already confirmed the body on the Chevy prototypes are steel with magnets. I assume GM has found a way to cut weight in other ways, this is something they have advanced expertise in considering the enormous weight loss of their entire product range. And since fully aluminum construction is ultimately offset by weight gains in other areas, it's not always a worthwhile solution.
