2019 RAM Vertical Screen Spied

The 2019 RAM is getting a huge vertical infotainment screen. Presumably other FCA products will benefit.

Certainly more exciting to look at than the other trucks, at least on the inside. Not sure what GM is doing but Ford is understandably skittish about these things and keeping it pretty basic and familiar.

Agree, in other products it seems to have more sense, but I am not so sure about this in the Ram trucks

I guess it depends on how many variations they have, most contractors probably aren't buying Platinums and Limiteds for work after all. You could just as logically ask why do trucks have carpet if contractors wear boots? There are buttons around the screen but not everything is redundant. I'm sure RAM is mostly seeking attention with this but it would be a great system for their cars and SUVs. Trucks are ultimately more luxury than work now and RAM is playing to that more than Ford which relies more upon it's fleet business. Ford isn't chasing RAM's smoother suspension for example. Among the Detroit Makers, FCA certainly leads them all in terms of large and excellent touch screen interfaces so it makes some sense they would point the way here.

The best part of that pic is that we can see there. Where are the gear shift? It was replaced by those "piano keys" at the bottom of the screen, like in the Lincoln Navigator?
