Hyundai IONIQ

Hyundai Teases Prius Fighting IONIQ Compact

Hyundai is prepared to pull out all the stops with its upcoming IONIQ sedan. Will three engines, a unique moniker, and compact practicality be enough to stand out against the Toyota Prius?

TY for posting this GMfan

...The IONIQ will also be built on an all new platform that was specifically designed to accommodate the trio of engines that will be on tap...
soooooooooo.................
[ Hyundai out-A.M.P's FoMoCo ]
conventional hybrid engine setup
plug-in hybrid setup
pure electric powertrain

as for the 'picture'
-- seems OK-generic EXCEPT for a hint of typical Hyundai rear whealarch tumor
-- I'm wondering if an unusally long wheelbase could provide better room for batteries while also 'tricking' the future CAFE rigamarole that loopholes for larger "footprint"?

Re: Hyundai Teases Prius Fighting IONIQ Compact

This sounds like the direction Ford should be going in with their new hybrid vehicles. I expect to see super light weighing from Ford, using combination of magnesium, aluminum, high strength steel and carbon fibre. That collaboration with DOW: FORD, DOWAKSA TO JOINTLY DEVELOP CARBON FIBER FOR HIGH-VOLUME AUTOMOTIVE LIGHT-WEIGHTING APPLICATIONS should pay off.

Along with the the tiny 1.0L EcoBoost as part of a hybrid or plug-inhybrid drivetrain. But expect the 1.5L to be used instead for more power. Its also time for new battery tech to make it to Ford vehicles. The competition has upgraded twice since Ford launched their hybrids or plug-ins.

Expecting Ford to make a big leap, without stumbling this time. General Motors how was the 47mpg combined for their new 2016 Malibu hybrid, surly just to kick Ford in the balls.

"As the brochure shows, there are two versions of the Ioniq available before launch, both fitted with a six-speed DCT transmission and a 1.6-liter GDI engine. The GDI stands for gasoline direct injection, and the unit is good for 105 HP at 5,700 rpm. The maximum torque available is 147 Nm or 108 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm.

No news on which of the two variants is the plug-in hybrid and which the hybrid option, and the electric version is missing from this informational booklet.

The brochure shows two variants of the Hyundai Ioniq, one available with 15-inch rims and the other fitted with 17-inch rims. The latter has a lower MPG rating and thus higher CO2 emissions.

According to the booklet, the model with 15-inch wheels provides a fuel economy rating of 22.4 kilometers/liter (4.46 liters/100 km or 52 MPG US) and a CO2 rating of 69 grams/kilometer. The 17-inch variant is rated at 20.2 kilometers/liter (4.9 liters/100 km or 47.5 MPG) as far as fuel economy is concerned and at 78 grams of CO2/kilometer when it comes to emissions.

@Bloggin , I'm missing where you got the Liters-per-kilometer /
OK... I've READ the article sorta...
judging from the CO2, wouldn't the plug-in be the lower one?

this COULD be very interesting for me personally - too bad it's Hyundai instead of KIA whose styling I usually prefer

I kinda think the higher-mpg/lower CO2 is the plug-in cuz it's larger battery would allow for more electric-only operation
IF that comes with the smaller wheels, imho it sounds like a "harder-green" model
so
the larger wheeled is more for sport
tho
seems both are Fwd-Only - right?

I really want Virtual-Awd :pout:

Much better than a Prius!

I expected the doors to be aluminum also.
