It seems Lincoln is missing the sweet spot on all models except the 2018 Navigator. Which may be due to initially having to share Ford model FWD architecture until Lincoln has an architecture that can rival its luxury competition. In a way, it looks like Lincoln is trying to avoid a head to head comparison with its competitors.

imho it's mainly timing
Kuga came out in 2008
Macan in 2014
& the next Escape-et-al are supposed to grow a bit from spypix

btw, @Bloggin
I've been seeing tons of posts about how Cadillac should combine ATS&CTS into one model and only have 2 carCars (with CT6 the other)
which
sounds imho a Lot like what you've been saying all along about the MKZ shrinking and becoming the STARstang.
You've been ahead of the curve

I don't think MKZ needs to shrink.

I agree, I have complete faith in ford that expedition/nav will garner great reviews.

I wonder, more so regarding nav and it's likely much higher price, will the consumer notice and find it compelling enough against formidable competition? (rhetorical question)

Could u clarify your prediction of 12k sales of navigator...would that be monthly? Quarterly? Annually?

In the context of my entire post, I tired to suggest that a potentially class leading Navigator would help Lincoln surpass 12K sales monthly, probably by years end. That would put them in parity currently with cadillac.

Ah u were referring to the ENTIRE Lincoln lineup...makes much more sense. I misread. So that would be roughly 3k/month for new nav by the end of this sales year...I think that's a little optimistic.

Re: Ford June 2017 Overall Sales Down 5.1%; Lincoln Up 5.3%

I think we all know that part of the problem with Lincoln's relationship with Ford is that they can't get the platform packaging quite right for their primary luxury competition. It's one of the reasons MKZ and MKC are just too small. It doesn't help that Ford products generally have the smallest dimensions and interiors in their segments which is compounded at the luxury level, but Ford is very slowly correcting that in more recent products like the Edge (MKX) in particular which is massive compared to it's main rivals. The next Escape should also give Lincoln a better platform to work with, although it appears MKC will be lagging Escape by a number of years. I would argue that Continental is still competitively too small as well and that may have something to do with the low roof in the Fusion/MKZ it's based on.

Ford would be very smart to make the next-gem MKZ a STARstang, a 4-door STARstang. However, I'm of the opinion that Ford is not that smart.

I don't understand the fetishizing of the Mustang platform, it's not that good at being anything but a RWD straight arrow.

Based on an opinion you have, you are concluding that Ford is not smart if they don't share in that same opinion? There is then, no better option out there, then to just throw a premium Lincoln badge on a Mustang???
