MyFord Touch 3.6

I see MyFord/MyLincoln Touch 3.6 has been released. This time Ford is telling customers to update it themselves versus having the dealer do it - including with Lincoln customers, which I find a bit interesting.

Has anyone tried it yet? Any noticeable changes?

Re: MyFord Touch 3.6

I did it a few weeks ago and the update process had its problems, especially for Mac users because it requires an outdated version of Java which OSX won't support (which they make no effort to tell you, they just keep telling you to update Java). I had to dust off a PC to do it, which still had problems creating an error free USB image; which it doesn't verify before you get it to the car so I found out after my car ran for 20 minutes. On my 2nd attempt, I was able to successfully instal it and report the update to Ford using VHR (instead of taking the USB back to the computer).

Improved system performance, especially at startup
Increased Touch Zones on Home Screen so you can touch anywhere in a quadrant to go full-screen
Improved screen interactions while using voice (suggested voice actions)
Updated support for phones and media players
Home page displays song/artist info (my favorite change)
Improvements to System Installation
Quicker install - < 30 minutes
Persistence of Navigation Favorites during installation (still don't know what this means)

In any case, many people are having problems with the update process, with quite a few failures reported. Not at all shocked.

I also updated when it was first released, which required Java. But now the download method has changed, the file is downloaded as zip file to your pc, then you unzip the contents & copy them to a flash drive. Hence Java is no longer required.

Sounds a lot easier.

Since I work in I.T. for an insurance company I have seen a lot of companies that we are partnered with write their software to only work on a certain version of java and it really causes a headache. Nice to see they have fixed this issue.

Great...that's encouraging. I'm supposed to update my grandparent's...

Re: MyFord Touch 3.6

I have an ordered unit scheduled to built the week of September 2nd. Is this the version that will be installed at the factory?

I would assume so. The plants tend to get the updates before dealers/customers.

Re: MyFord Touch 3.6

So, I hear Ford has done an about-face on their position to have customers perform the update. Dealerships will now do it since customers were having so many issues installing it.

Lincoln should ALWAYS do the updates at dealerships. It's outrageous to ask luxury customers to have to mess with updates. You'll never see Cadillac have owners update CUE. In fact, during the last CUE update Cadillac dealers did it for free, gave you a new Cadillac loaner car, filled your car up with gas, detailed it, and Cadillac gave us all a $50 Visa card for the trouble.

Re: MyFord Touch 3.6

What are the improvements? The only thing I've read is that touching anywhere in a quadrant, rather than touching only the colored bar, will pull that up function to the entire screen.

Buy American!
Buy Ford!
So say we all...

Re: MyFord Touch 3.6

I hope Ford does not take away the ability to self-update MyFord Touch. I've never had any difficulties doing the updates, and I'd rather do them while I'm already driving around instead of having my car unnecessarily idle for 30-60 minutes. Now, a Cadillac-style approach for Lincoln is necessary to live up to the expectations of a luxury brand, but I can't see Ford dealers doing the same.
