Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

I got a bit rattled after the whole discussion about the MKS-Insideline review and that got me thinking on why is it that we participate in this particular message board. What is it about Ford that makes you come day after day to FoMoCo News?

I though it would be an interesting question to ask and one that could spark an interesting conversation.

I wouldn't be fair if I didn't answer the question myself:

I can genuinely said that I do in fact love Ford and the Ford Motor Company. And I have a very particular reason to do that. That reason is that I love cars and car history and there is no car company in the world that can claim to have the rich history and rich heritage that the Ford Motor Company has. From Henry Ford to Allan Mullaly today ford has very seldom had a dull character at the helm. From the Model T to the Mustang Ford has revolutionized the industry and reinvented itself so many times in so many great ways. Ford was the name on the first assembly line ever to work in Japan, the Russian revolution was fought on Ford Model Ts, Bonnie and Clyde would run around in Model As, WWII was won on airplanes cranked out of Ford plants.

So you see, when I drive my little Mariner, or when I taste drive a Mustang, a Flex or an MKS, I can feel all that history behind me. Its been hard sometimes to stay loyal, and God knows I have cheated left and right (my other car is also a Merc, but not followed by "ury") but I always have owned at least on Ford product.

What's your excuse?

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

I live mostly in Europe, and Ford provides the most inovative and most sensibly priced vehicles in europe.

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

I love Ford Motor Company for five main reasons.

1. Ford makes Mercury the greatest brand ever. (in my opinion)
2. Ford's rich heritage and history.
3. Ford produces reliable, safe, and great quality cars, suv's and trucks.
4. Ford is American!
5. Just about all my parents and other family members drove were Ford's or Mercury's

Hi MERCURYSABLE08,

Just one question. What makes you think that Mercury is the greatest brand ever? Can you elaborate on that?

Mercury has a great and rich heritage and was the idea of Edsel Ford. Edsel fought is father and his cronies, hard and for a long time to make Mercury a reality and at the end he prevailed Until Edsel's death Mercury was a great source of pride for him. He debated for a long time tough, whether to call the new car the Ford Mercury or simply Mercury.

I voted
1 My parents drove Mercurys/Fords.
2 FOMOCO's rich history and heritage.
-
4 Its American: USA, USA, USA, USA . . .
-
6 Because it provides sensible, affordable and quality transportation
7 Because of its newly REDISCOVERED spirit of innovation.

(now,
in my own order,
some qualifiers:
)
1 actually my father had a Mercury when I was born -- I like to say, "I was born in a Mercury", cuz we rode to & back from the hospital in it
& it's the first car I remember
4 wasn't always the case for me but it sure is now
2,6,7 I've always like Fomoco vehicles best ...& other mfgs when theirs seemed sorta Ford-ish. Hard to put in to words but my std way of saying it is:
There's a certain Flavor to the BlueOval, esp. the design/styling - through just about All the years and all the permutations, it's like they've got a secret spice that leaves everyone else just a bit 'flat' at best
or like the others use something different in its place that I just can't 'palate', at worst (thinking butterscotch :barf: )
and
Then

^DITTO!

Sobe, until Mr.SABLE shows up & since I most whole-heartedly agree,
here's my take (a "short" version ) continuing my 'flavor' metaphor
- Ford is like STEAK
- Mercury is like STEAK WITH all my favorite trimmings & served on a "bit nicer" plate, with "bit nicer" silverware, with etc...

but seriously,
I DO believe Mercury is the quite simply the world's Most PERFECT Brand
(or can be)
= The GOLDILOCKS Brand:
not too little, not too much... ...Juuuuuuuuuussssst RIGHT

Take the best of any-&-All brands between econo & luxury,
plus a certain 'savoir-faire' (won't say 'je ne sais quoi' cuz I believe I know perfectly well All about what can make Mercs Mercurific),
arrange those features attractively in one package (a waterfall grille makes a lovely garnish)
and That's what Mercury has been (not allways) and I trust is working at being for the future...

Like I've frequently said
Mercura* Meriniti MeraudiVagen...
just a bit of bMERCw
and even AlfaMerceo/Mercubishi* for the smaller-sporty cars
(* Note: thinking mainly the latest Lancer/Evo & older BeforeTheirFall models
And probably will be dropping Acura - unless their designers get OFF The DRUGS
!)

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

Well my parents always drove Dodge (Now I loath those horrible vehicles) I bought a Ford because of ONE vehicle had to be in my Drive way: 2002 Ford Focus Zx5 in Egg Yolk Yellow. Everyone and also LMdealer remember that vehicle. All of my bestest of friends work for a Ford dealership, except one who works at a Honda dealership.

I also wanted to be different from my parents, because I have always lived by my own rule; Thrive to better than your parents. They never liked Ford so I decided to buy one. My partner bought a Focus ZTS, my brother bought a Zx3, and I had my parents buy a Contour. So for a year or two we were a large Ford only family. My partner and I are back in Fords after is Saturn Vue, my brother has a crappy Suzuki Reno, and parents still own the Contour.

So there is my reasons in a nutshell!!

Current Car; 2018 Focus EV 115m Range
2015 Focus EV 75m Range, 2013 Cmax Energi, 2010 Fiesta, 2007 Milan, 2005 Ranger, 2002 Focus Zx5.

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

Just to add on why I bought a Mercury... Well I have known LMdealer for about 5 years now and wanted a higher class vehicle with better mpg's and saw the Milan looked nicer than the Fusion. This of course was a spur of the moment decision (5 minutes of sitting). I went outside and showed him a blue, he said to get the silver, and the rest is history and she sits in my driveway still getting stares.

Now there is a 2 or more people with Mercury Milans living in my neighborhood since I bought mine. The Milan is contagiously nice and it shows here.

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

My first car was a 1961 Fairlane that my parents bought new. it came to me in 1969 after being passed down through my two older sisters and my oldest brother. By that time it had almost 250K miles on the clock.

After that, I owned a 1965 Mustang convertible, a 1968 Torino GT formal roof, a 1968 Mercury Cougar, and a variety of other Fords interspersed with GM and British makes.

My first new car was a 1979 Pinto.

So I guess I inherited a family loyalty to Ford and that's why I now own an 05 F350 for my business and an 08 Focus for commuting.

Re: Question thread: Why do you like Ford?

For me it's Ford trucks for why I love Ford, Ford has always built the biggest baddest ass trucks. I can still remember when I was a kid marveling at the Bigfoot trucks with the big Ford trucks flag flying around on the back, Also my whole family (basically any close relative) has always owned FoMoCo products and I have seen the abuse they can take wether it was my uncles 240k Town Car or other uncles 310k 91 F150 or his 260k 98 150 that is still going strong I have always found Ford RWD products to be extremely reliable. My parents always owned Fords and Mercury's up until a few years ago when they decided to go off the deep end and buy a Fucking Hyundai that now resides in our driveway that dissapoints me to a great extent that my Dad who always preached the greatness of Ford products would now buy a Korean POS that was probably built by 5 year olds but thankfully the Hyundai has started to self destruct and I keep reminding my dad about his upcoming timing belt service while my Ford soldiers on to 160k hard worked miles. So basically I am a 19 year old who loves Ford and will never consider anything else in the future and I am hoping to buy a brand new Superduty ( 6.2 BOSS) when I get out of college in a few years.
