Then there is the fact that EVs take much less production space, development resources( most of the ICE engine, transmission, cooling system, exhaust, emissions people won't be needed), production components and much less production assembly. This will be especially impactful on line workers since Fords first EV will not launch until 2020 and be a low volume model.

VW already spelled out how it will happen, as they are going through that process already. And as ICE trucks and suvs transition to EVs, the same happens there.
Taurus production is being replaced by Aviator.

MKT/Flex are built in the plant Edge/Nautilus are made in.

Uh? MAP is producing Ranger and Bronco....

They have baby Bronco, Mach 1, and other models to produce too. They have to go somewhere.

Why wont Ford give us the new Focus? Its an amazing car that rivals the Golf and GTI. It is made on a holy grail platform that can spawn any type of vehicle...so Focus factories can make SUVs as well. Americans are getting robbed of the chance to buy this well-engineered hot hatch.

Tariff on imported cars by Trump´s administration. Ford planned to import the Focus Active from China to USA. But the tariff killed the plan.

Active is just one they should have brought. We need that beautiful hatch and ST/RT. The tariff is a copout as that could be worked into the price and be almost unnoticeable. Or import from Sarlouis instead of China. Or adapt a factory in Mexico to make Focus and related cars.

Doesn't matter where they make it. It will not produce enough profits to bring it here. One simple recall could wipe out the minimal profits it may make.
Now, if they ever bring out a really stunning, jaw-dropping design, that could be sold in large enough numbers without discounts, I would say they should bring it over. This redesign is neither.

Rather than invest billions in a next gen Focus platform with gas/hybrid engines, I would rather see a dedicated pure electric without compromise. Perhaps a bit smaller/cheaper than Tesla 3. That would be worthy of investment.

Aside from plant shutdowns, I read somewhere that GM is shifting from hybrid to EVs. Volt will get discontinued while the Bolt EV lives on.

It's a victim of the trade war. The plan was to build high profit SUVs/ trucks in US plants and import the lower profit Focus. Then Trump happened, so plans for the US Focus was shelved.

And thank God someone has the gall to actually seek out fair trade, after years of America getting the shaft.

Yeah we need fair trade but companies don't have the capacity or labor expertise to fill their entire volume with US production. This China thing may actually harm the consumer. Its a little different that the big box retailer making junk in China and telling the public its just like the better product for much less....cough cough Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc...
