re: Larger Chinese Ford Edge Spotted in Michigan

Vehicles require years of planning and market research and Ford Edge XL is a Chinese exclusive because they determined that years ago. They won't change their mind now suddenly.

If other similarly sized 7 seaters start eating into Edge/Explorer sales you can bet they'll change their minds. I cannot see any reason the extended Edge couldn't be built alongside NA Edges, and they will if Ford determines it won't eat into Explorer sales.

Ford did that once before, not bring the Ranger to NA, now looking at GM its pretty clear that protecting F150 sales was a mistake.

I never said we're going to see this vehicle on sale next year, Borg; I'm not that naive. But who's to say they aren't looking into it for a Flex replacement post-refresh? Who's to say what the next Explorer has in store as far as a potential interior size and/or minor price bump is concerned once it gets off that bulky platform? You don't know any better than I. I'm not discussing this 7 passenger Edge pictured in the context of an identical model reaching US shores and into the hearts of thousands. I'm talking about this vehicle in a similar context in which we discuss the EcoSport, the new Taurus, and the Everest/Ranger.

Here is something interesting about the MKT which would also relate to the Flex:

"The MKT 3-row CUV is not selling well, but Galhotra says it will remain in the lineup for the foreseeable future. “There’s still a need for that vehicle, and there’s a customer for that vehicle and we plan to continue that vehicle.”

Now it's time to look for next gen MKT and Flex mules running around.
