Spyshot: 2015 Focus Sedan

We have all seen the refreshed 2015 Focus Hatch revealed in Geneva earlier this month. But unlike the reveal of the current model Focus, where both the hatch and sedan were revealed together, Ford is holding the sedan for a separate reveal at the NY Auto Show that kicks off April 18th.

This could be for a few reasons:

- Ford likes to clear the stage for a vehicle when they have something special to offer, whether it's a new technology or new drivetrain. So expected something special from the 2015 Focus Sedan.

- The sedan is more aerodynamic than the hatch, where it is already available with an SFE Package with a focus on fuel econemy that offers 40mpg hwy. We know from the 2015 Focus Microsite that the hatch will offer the 1.0L EcoBoost as part of an SE EcoBoost Package with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine, where the focus is 'performance and efficiency - no compromise necessary'.

Which means that the more aerodynamic sedan will still offer the current SFE Package, but with the more effecient 1.0L EcoBoost fuel option. The sedan in the picture above also looks to be wearing a new version of the current 'aero' wheel covers for improved efficiency, that are only available as part of the current SFE Package.

Also, with the current Focus Sedan with the SE EcoBoost Package, it ONLY comes with a 6-speed automatic(no manual option) to reach 40mpg hwy. So it seems obvious that the 2015 sedan with the 1.0L EcoBoost would also be automatic. Especially since the 2015 Focus seems to be moving more upscale in it's design and option packages.

- Then there are the many reports that state that the 2015 Focus Hatch will offer manual ONLY 6-speed transmission here in the states. But it seems that may be the case in Europe where manual transmissions are dominate with this high volume compact car.

Based on the U.S press release, where the automatic transmission is dominate, Ford offers this...

"the new Focus will offer the remarkably efficient, fun-to-drive, award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost® engine with a six-speed transmission"

As you can see, there is no statement from Ford about manual only for the 1.0L EcoBoost for the U.S market.

Offering a manual only 1.0L EcoBoost on the lower volume 2014 Fiesta, or the 2.0: EcoBoost in the Focus ST in the U.S. is one thing, but 'restricting' the sale of the high volume more effecient Focus hatch is another.

If as expected there is a Focus Hatch Hybrid offered(along with a Focus Hatch Energi plug-in hybrid), then a 1.0L EcoBoost 'manual only' works, as it will 'push' those not into rowing their own gears, into the hybrid for more efficiency.

It is not expected that there will be a 2015 Focus Hybrid Sedan, as that body style in a compact car does not work. VW is only able to sell 200+ units a month of the Jetta Hybrid sedan, with Honda only able to sell 400+ monthly of the #1 selling Civic Hybrid sedan. While the C-MAX Wagon, even after lower mpg ratings are at 1,300+ monthly.

So as info is available about the 2015 Focus Sedan this thread will be updated, with the expectation of information leaks at least a week prior to the NY Auto Show on April 18th.
