So you're comparing a perfect/touched up press release photo with great lighting, different angle, fully optioned model to a poor spy shot at a terrible angle, through a window, terrible lighting, and what clearly appears to be a base model, and complaining that it's terrible and the "gap" grows bigger every year?

Gotcha...

Well, we still have the New Navigator, New MKZ, New Aviator?(New Explorer is due), New whitespace sedan.
actually
by my count
in one way at least
we're only getting ONE fully new vehicle ()...
...imho it's sorta-fair to consider the Aviator a new Name (& everything else) for an existing vehicle = MKT
tho
just-maybe NAIAS will have a s'prise...

imho "alongside" may not be at all accurate
if the MKC is in a separate factory, think it doesn't have to share much if anything with the nextgen Escape (looks towards MAP)

imho the Germans are in a snooty Yurpish finishing school where all they're really 'taught' is that they're special/speshul
and that NYC-Brand might still be doing drugs in the park more than attending classes

Each year has something new and major going on for the brand which will help it to slowly catch-up with the rapid pace of the industry. But Lincoln literally needs to learn to walk before it can run and they are still in Kindergarden when everybody else is in College. Every year we should see them move up a grade but at least they aren't flunking this time.
Bipolar much? LOL

I was surprised when my SA told me that Lincoln 'doesn't expect to sell many Continentals in the US in the first place' since it was 'built for China' and therefore, would be a low volume model at a high price.

I'm curious how this is going to play out - especially with the facelifted MKZ.

The trend is that the entire brand is moving up which is a good thing.

The facelifted MKZ as BL with the 3.0T AWD and the new Revel system and what not could end up in the mid $60Ks. depending on what a fully loaded BL Conti has to offer, i wouldn't be surprised to see a price in the low $80Ks. Heck, even the MKX BL is close to $70K...

LINCOLN

Detroit debuts: Lincoln may reveal the production version of the Continental sedan, which executives say will look close to the concept unveiled last April at the New York auto show.

2016 pipeline: New Continental, freshened MKZ

2015 share: 0.6% (Jan.-Nov.); 0.6% (Jan.-Dec. 2014)

Sales trend: Lincoln increased U.S. sales for a second consecutive year in 2015, the first multiyear streak for the brand since 1998. With the Continental replacing the MKS and a freshening on the way of Lincoln's top seller, the MKZ, the brand should be able to stretch that to three years.

Challenges: U.S. sales are rising, but Lincoln still ranks eighth among luxury brands. The Continental's return finally has people talking about Lincoln again, but will the buzz (and the inevitable Matthew McConaughey ads) attract more shoppers?

Strategy: The Continental is Lincoln's fourth new or redesigned vehicle in four years. Executives have promised two additional nameplates by 2020, when the brand is targeting 300,000 sales in the U.S. and China, roughly triple volume from 2014. As the Continental demonstrates, much of Lincoln's focus is on China.
My big takeaway from this article is that while we will have received four new Lincolns in four years with the launch of the Continental, we will only see two, not counting MCEs, over the next four. I don't know if my old heart can take such excitement.

1. MKS may be established and have name recognition... but it ain't good.
2. A real 3-series competitor should not be saddled with the stench of the MKS's failure.
3. EmKay names just need to die. I understand the reasoning behind alphanumeric naming schemes but IMO Lincoln would be better off using name if only because they would be unique among premium brands in that sense.
4. Go back to number 1 and start over!
