Re: Geneva: AlfaRomeo x 3 ???

I might have not gotten 'round to posting more in this thread if a MYSTERY hadn't developed...

...the third concept, the Giugiaro Alfa 159 sedan replacement concept apparently never showed up

haven't found an explanation so far, therefore = Mystery

as for the 2 that did show up, here are handy NetCarShow pix/links

Pininfarina avoids retro design with modern Alfa Romeo Duetto spider -

Luca Ciferri - February 28, 2010 00:22 CET
Pininfarina will unveil at the Geneva auto show a modern interpretation of the most famous car it produced for Alfa Romeo: the 1966 Duetto spider.

Actor Dustin Hoffman was driving a red Duetto spider in the famous movie, "The Graduate."

Still without an official name, the Pininfarina concept is a two-seat spider with the original Duetto layout: front longitudinal engine and rear drive...

..."Our Spider concept is classic in its proportions but refrains from retro design, laying out a design language for the future," said Lowie Vermeersch, design director at Pininfarina.

The lines of the new spider are as simple as possible, with thin front and rear lamps which just compel the function they have to -- illuminate -- instead of being bulky elements of decoration...

Bertone's Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept leaks ahead of Geneva - Autoblog
by Jeremy Korzeniewski
on Feb 16th 2010 at 7:24PM
The raging torrent of pre-Geneva Motor Show leaks is officially in full effect today as a series of images showing off Bertone's new Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept have hit the Interwebs (thanks Unica-Strada!) First of all, what the heck is a Pandion? Simple: a type genus of the Pandionidae. Mmm hmm. That'd be an osprey, sometimes known as a fish hawk. Moving on, then.

To our eyes, the Pandion isn't really what we've come to expect from Alfa Romeo, at least not styling-wise. The Italian marque's classically flowing curves are present and accounted for, but they are bisected by swaths of what appears to be clear plastic. The rear-view is especially busy – kinda like it's fashioned from hundreds of containers worth of Tinker Toys. Oh, and fans of Battlestar Galactica are sure to appreciate the Pandion's head-on view.

Stile Bertone – which until recently was led by Jason Castriota, the man responsible for such far-out designs as the Alfa 8C-based B.A.T. 11 and the Corvette ZR1-based Mantide – penned the Pandion, and we do see some influence from the styling house's past designs. We don't yet know what's underhood of the uniquely styled concept, or really anything else about it not revealed by these images. That said, see for yourself below and, as always, let us know what you think in the Comments.

Alfa's are great to look at. But I would be scared of owning one.

Bertone Coupe Concept: 2010 Geneva Auto Show - InsideLine

Published Feb 2, 2010
TURIN, Italy — Following Pininfarina's release of a sketch of its Alfa-based spider concept for the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, Stile Bertone has added a teaser of its own effort, a futuristic coupe that, like the Pininfarina spider, is derived from the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione.

A third carrozzeria, Italdesign Giugiaro, is said to be working up a study based on the new Alfa Giulietta that will debut at the Geneva show.

According to, Bertone's GT concept is the first work directed by Mike Robinson, the company's executive design and brand director.

Re: Geneva: AlfaRomeo X 3 ! ! !

the thing that excites me is there'll be 3 (THREE!) presumably different design themes for the 3 models!

Wonder if AlfaRomeo will use this as a giant consumer clinic to decide which style to use?

2010 Geneva Motor Show Preview: Alfa Romeo Spider Concept

By Pininfarina
- MotorAuthority
- By Viknesh Vijayenthiran - January 29th, 2010Earlier this month we first reported that Alfa Romeo was planning a trio of new concept cars previewing its replacement for the 159 sedan for March’s 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The first evidence that at least one new Alfa Romeo concept is in the works was revealed today in the form of an official teaser sketch from Italian design house and coachbuilder Pininfarina.

According to the original report, Alfa Romeo enlisted the talents of the three major Turin design houses, Stile Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign Giugiaro, each of which had been assigned the task of developing one of three different concepts depicting the 159 replacement: a coupe, a spider convertible and a regular four-door sedan.

Pininfarina was assigned the spider convertible concept, which the design firm has envisaged as a strict two-seater that draws its styling from past Alfa Romeo spiders.

Incidentally, the concept is also being created as part of the celebrations of both Alfa Romeo’s centenary and Pininfarina’s own 80th birthday.

The new concept will be unveiled in Geneva on March 2.
