The 1% that Ford is planning to invest huge amounts to satisfy.

Those hanging on to ICE? You mean the 99% of us?

Re: All New Fiesta ...now including Fiesta ST

It's after the holiday, and today CA gas prices have not come down. $3.70 to $3.90. With diesel at $3.99. Looking at this real world like consumers, it cost $59 to fill a tank with regular and over $62 to fill with premium unleaded and just 16 gallons. That would be $66 to fill up the Edge or Explorer with just regular, and $70 with premium.

Yeah.....consumers take note of that when they fill up each time, and begin thinking about how they can reduce that cost and get more mpg from each gallon. And the more each fill up costs, the better buying Zero fuel, going electric sounds.

With the US using billions of less barrels of gasoline annually than before, it's clear that the oil companies are just trying to get what they can as long as they can. Those hanging on to ICE over the next few years just need to prepare to be ripped off.

Not sure it's that simple. Certainly can't be that short sighted to buy a short term gain for long term loss. It's a bold move but makes sense in some ways.

The problem ultimately is not quite what I stated. Ford caved to activist investors ... they could have kept building cars- even though the market is crap. But the investors wanted a "visionary" "Jobsian" "Muskian" move in the market ... it cost Fields his job and Hackett caved

I seriously doubt that the expressed opinion of a simple engineer had any influence whatsoever on a major corporate product strategy shift. But thanks for thinking so highly of me

As far as no more cheap options, many here are probably celebrating. For years I condemned higher ATP's because they impacted me as a customer. But hey, if it impacts me as a shareholder in a positive way, I will smile all the way to the bank.....driving my hybrid CUV.

Sudden big gas price increases is what make people worry/panic and swap their truck/SUV for more fuel efficient vehicles, incremental ones, not so much. I know John McElroy covered this topic several times before at Autoline.
