Ford announced the towing and payload capacity for its 2013 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks today, bumping the best-in-class claim higher than ever before.

Towing capacity for the 2013 model year increases to 18,500 lbs — 500 more than the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD. Of course, the payload capacity also increased to 7,260 lbs – something the truck owes to its improved brake system.

“We’ve really improved brake feel,” brake system engineer Michael Watkins said. “There’s refined modulation in the pedal – you really feel the stopping power. With a full load of cargo, drivers will notice strong, confidence-inspiring brakes.”

Apart from having better-feeling brakes, the truck also gets a larger parking brake which helps it achieve the higher capacity.
