2015 Ford Mustang Detroit Free Press Car of the Year
Detroit Free Press

Ford invented the affordable American sporty car with the 1965 Mustang. Fifty years later, Ford's still showing the rest of the auto industry how it's done.

New from the ground up, the 2015 Mustang combines the pony car's ageless appeal with the latest technology and contemporary design. The result is the first Mustang consciously created to be sold around the world, a turbocharged global ambassador of American design, manufacturing and technology.

The 2015 Mustang GT has classic muscle-car V8 power, but don't sleep on the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, which delivers more power and the same fuel economy as the legendary 3.0L six-cylinder in BMW's 435i sport coupe and convertible.

Need I mention that the Mustang coupe and convertible cost thousands less? Affordability and design always drove the Mustang's appeal. The 2015 adds top-flight technology and efficiency to the formula.

Inside and out, the new Mustang blends classic design elements with advanced technology. LEDs improve the performance of lights in the classic three-bar design. A long-delayed independent rear suspension delivers the smoothest ride and highest road-holding capability in Mustang history.

The 2015 Ford Mustang also gets my vote for North American Car of the Year. The winner of that award will be announced Jan. 12 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

When did the new Mustang start hitting dealerships? Anyone have any info on the number of units available? Have any been sent to Europe yet? Elsewhere in the world? There is NO DOUBT it will be a hit in the US; it's the overseas reaction I am curious about.
