2015 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Rendering

As we’ve previously reported, the sixth-generation Mustang could mark the return of the Mach 1 moniker, which was discontinued for the second time almost ten years ago. Nothing’s official yet, but word has it Ford is in the final stages of acquiring the trademark for the iconic name.

If the rumor proves to be true, we could see a sixth-generation Mustang Mach 1 being launched for the 2016 model year, but it’s a little too early to speculate on what Ford might be rolling out on the new pony. As a lifelong Mach 1 enthusiast...wow...if that's close, I could be writing large checks soon.

I for one would like to see them revisit the name as Mach I is an awesome name, but I would prefer they not fall back on previous styling conventions associated with it. Give us thoroughly modern performance car that lives up to the Mach I one's tradition of performance, but without the retro styling!! I understand it's going to be hard to get away from the racing stripes on a Shelby GT350, thus the retro will still exist in the lineup, the Mach I should go it's own, fresh new route! And please, no f'n shaker scoop!!

If the GT350 won't be using the EB3.5L V6 (catch the symmetry!), then perhaps the Mach1 will. And, a shaker hood scoop would be awesome!

I dunno if I could buy a Mach with less than 8 cylinders. As for the "retro" styling, if the hood had functional scoops for cooler air, and if former elements were "evolved" and functional, I'd be all for it. I just don't want any scoops doing nothing or cheap tape-stripe "appearance packages". Motor, brake, and suspension upgrades with some functional styling tweaks would be fine.
