FORD GT MAKES DRAMATIC ENTRANCE AT E3 2015
TO DEBUT EXCLUSIVELY FOR FORZA MOTORSPORT 6

FORD | JUN 15, 2015 | LOS ANGELES

The ultra-high-performance Ford GT descended from the rafters at E3 2015 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles today, making its world gameplay premiere as cover car for the next iteration of the leading race simulation franchise for Xbox – Forza Motorsport 6 – launching exclusively for Xbox One. Ford GT, which arrives in select markets globally late next year, serves as a technology showcase for the company, with ultra-efficient EcoBoost® engine performance, advanced aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction.

While only a few of the world’s top professional race car drivers will get to pilot Ford GT in the GTE-Endurance Pro class at Le Mans next year, millions of fans around the globe will have the opportunity to drive the all-new supercar when it debuts exclusively for Forza Motorsport 6 on Sept. 15.

The Forza Motorsport 6 vehicle lineup also includes Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang and F-150 Raptor. More news about Forza Motorsport activities at E3 2015 is available at forzamotorsport.net.

Xcar gets the scoop on Ford's strategy for the GT at Le Mans in 2016
Autoblog

Jul 2nd 2015 at 7:59PM

Ford's plan to return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 with the latest GT might have been one of the worst kept secrets in motorsports in recently memory. Even before the road car debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, rumors were flying about the Blue Oval's strategy. The wait for the official announcement just before this year's race was certainly a long one, but it was probably worthwhile just to see the competition version's spectacular looks. Xcar recently got the chance to interview Ford about the company's objectives for the new racer's development...

INFORMATION
2016 Ford GT Program Update
SUMMARY

The purpose of this communication is to provide dealers with new information on the Ford GT program and establish timing expectations for the ordering process.

Ford GT Program Update
Raj Nair, Ford’s Global Director of Product Development will be making the following announcement to a gathering of Ford GT owners on Thursday, August 27, 2015:

  • Ford will introduce a unique ordering process for the all-new Ford GT supercar, with the program commencing in early 2016.
  • Ford GTs will be assigned based on a customer application process, offering a personalized experience for every Ford GTbuyer.
  • Anyone can apply; priority will be given to loyal Ford customers including current Ford GT owners.
  • Applicants selected through the process will be assigned a car by Ford and complete their purchase through a Ford GT certified dealership of their choice.

Additional Information for Dealers

  • The Ford GT customer application process will begin in early 2016. Details on the application process will be provided closer to the application process start date.
  • Ford dealers will be able to opt-in and certify to sell the Ford GT. Details on the sales certification requirements will be communicated later this year.
  • A separate process will be established for Ford Dealership owners who wish to register and own a new Ford GT.
  • Limited production, high cost materials/parts and unique technologies will require unique factory-sponsored processes and resources to support customers and dealers. A separate service opt-in and certification process will be communicated in Q2/Q3 2016.
  • We recommend that dealers refrain from taking customer deposits.
  • As we continue to develop and refine the unique customer selection, allocation, and distribution processes for this extremely low-volume supercar, we will keep dealers fully informed.

Key Ford GT Product/Program Information (previously announced)

  • The Ford GT is an exciting demonstration of Ford’s capabilities and our culture of innovation & passion.

  • Production of the Ford GT road car will begin in late 2016 at dedicated facility in Markham, Ontario; global volume will be 250 vehicles per year.

Ford GT Power Figures Seemingly Leaked by Forza Motorsport 6
Car&Driver

September 11, 2015 by Robert Sorokanich

We know a lot about the upcoming Ford GT, the EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 supercar built to take on the European establishment the way the original Ford GT40 did back in the 1960s. The only thing we haven’t had confirmed was the car’s power output. Now, it seems we know that, too—via the racing video game Forza Motorsport 6.

As discovered by MotorAuthority, when you select the Ford GT in the video game, you’re presented with a spec sheet that seemingly spills all the beans: 630 horses, 539 lb-ft of torque, and a 2890-pound curb weight with a 43/57 front-rear distribution. That jibes with Ford’s promises of “over 600 horsepower”...

2017 Ford GT Production Limited to 200 Units

The 2017 Ford GT will reportedly be limited to just 200 units with half of those going to the U.S.

Autoweek is reporting that a source indicates production will be capped at 200 units, 100 of which will come to the U.S. For the first model year, the Ford GT will be priced around $400,000. The American automaker will be using an application process to determine which buyers will be eligible to purchase the sports car since demand will almost certainly outnumber supply.

The remaining 100 units will be allocated worldwide, namely in markets that Ford has a strong presence in. Autocar reports that the U.K. will get less than 20 units while other countries will receive around 10 a piece.

Exact specifications for the 2017 Ford GT have not been released but it will be powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine with over 600 horsepower. The powerplant will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the car will be nice and light thanks to plenty of carbon fiber panels.

2017 Ford GT Could get Carbon Fiber Wheels

The 2017 Ford GT will likely offer carbon fiber wheels as an option when it goes on sale.

The American automaker has already teamed up with Australia-based Carbon Revolution to offer carbon fiber wheels on the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R and the Ford GT sports car could be the next production model to benefit.

The GT350R’s carbon fiber wheels weigh just 18 pounds apiece, which is about 15 lbs less than comparable aluminum wheels, according to Ford. No official announcement has been made by the American automaker, but Ford spokesman Paul Seredynski confirmed to Autoblog that carbon fiber wheels are “something we’re looking at,” and alluded that they’d likely be optional equipment rather than standard.

In the past 10 months, Carbon Revolution has doubled its number of employees to 100, more than half of which had previously worked in nearby factories for Ford and aluminum company Alcoa. The company hopes to produce 50,000 wheels annually within the first two years, helping cut costs and allowing Ford to equip even more vehicles with the technology.

The 2017 Ford GT is expected to be powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine producing over 600 horsepower while mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

Ken Block Helps Unveil Gorgeous Red 2017 Ford GT in Dubai

Ken Block made a special trip to the Dubai Motor Show this week to help unveil the new Ford GT in a stunning new color called Liquid Red.

This is the first time we’ve seen Ford’s supercar in red, and with white racing stripes on its wide, sculpted hood, it’s safe to say that it looks **** good.

Block was on hand to present the 2017 Ford GT to Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai. The move is part of Ford’s strategy to introduce about 30 new models to the Middle East and Africa in the next five years.

This is the third-generation Ford GT, and only 250 units will be built annually. Just 100 will be available to buy in the U.S. and the supercar is scheduled to go on sale in late 2016. Pricing should be around $400,000 and official specs haven’t been released yet, but we do know that it will be powered by a 3,5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 with more than 600 horsepower.
