kinda s'prised we don't already have a thread for this; do we?

&
starting off with mere possibility...
...tho that kinda goes with the uncertainty of the 2020 Lincoln Aviator debut or concept of it!? & 2020 US Focus debut??

CarSpyShots: 2018 Jaguar I-Pace
...glimpses of the I-Pace production interior look as if Jaguar has taken the criticism on board. As a lot of the interior comes from the Range Rover Velar I have high hopes of something quite luxurious & special

The production car is being shown to deposit placers over the next couple of weeks prior to the launch on the 1st March - so it will be interesting to see if they are able to keep a lid on it until then

The Focus is not important for USA... even, Ford will stop producing it for almost a year. I think Hackett want to kill it in America.

They might pull a Hyundai Accent and make it sedan only here. My backup next car will be the 2019 (apparently staying? according to 2019 F-L Order Guides) fully loaded Ford Fiesta.

@falcon lover If you've noticed, there seems to be a pattern with the cars they kill off: They will heavily redesign or refresh its crossover variant.

Fiesta- Ecosport

Fusion- 2019 Edge

Taurus- 2018 Explorer

A sign of no more Focus for the US would be A heavily redone Escape.

(stage light)

(crickets)

I said a heavily redone Escape!

Why is the next Escape taking so long?

For me there are no doubts. This auto show is for Lincoln. It is the time of the Aviator, if not now, when?

The NG US Focus is still over 18 months from US sale so they could easily debut it next Autoshow season with 6 months+ to spare. The only problem is that they will essentially be surrendering their US small car customer before they have news about a new one to show...unless the April debut does enough to cover it. Obviously the Focus is a very non-critical product for the US and they expect to sell a fraction of the volume going forward anyway. Like FCA they are largely exiting the small car business in the US but in Ford's case they are able to take advantage of their global assets to continue importing a small number to keep their foot in the water while they figure out their struggling global Crossover strategy. Ford has become a smaller and smaller global player because of it's shrinking volume in small cars and lack of competitive compact crossovers to take their place. I believe Ford is only the 4th biggest automaker in Europe, 3rd biggest in the US, and they are completely irrelevant in China and it's all tied to their underachieing small car/utility program. This is a company with some enormous product problems to solve.

I am currently trying to get a Focus EV and they stopped production on them. They will also not produce a 2019 Focus because the factory is being retooled for Bronco and Escape I think.

I am a little pissed because I wanted to order my focus now, but was told they're not going to be making any and I had 4 to choose from that are in a 100m vicinity.

I hope the next EV is going to make me want it more than a Tesla.....

They may not have stopped production on them but they have stopped accepting new orders through the remainder of production, which means more might trickle into inventory over the coming months.

The next Ford EV is still 2-3 years away but it's going to be a 'small utility', and presumably more economical and less exotic than the Tesla.

I think Ford's answer to Tesla is a powerful Hybrid drivetrain which was leaked thanks to the Chinese Lincoln Aviator production plans, which spills the beans on a 3.0 EcoBoost Hybrid in a new RWD platform.

to the best of my knowledge the Focus-BEV was NOT really made by Ford
but by Magna
ie they got either a Focus body or just parts from Ford to make the BEV in their own facility (Canada I think)
+
I'm not at all sure when a new Battery Vehicle could turn up NOR if it'll be made just-by Ford or not...
...doubt they COULDN'T "sell one" sooner than 3 years or maybe even 24 months

Unless it's been moved since 2011, it was still made on the line.

I looked into Focus EV inventory and the car is basically out of stock now so it's safe to assume production has stopped which means Ford has exited the BEV market in the US.

Wait for the 2020 model if you can. It sounds like it's going to be FAR better than the current model. It seems worth it.

Ford has not committed to a next gen Focus EV. The only thing they have officially stated was that small SUV with around 300 miles of range around 2020, but that may have changed based on the last show when they teased the Explorer/Mustang love child SUV EV....MACH I.

But whatever EV Ford offers in the US, it will come from China based on what the Chinese market is asking for.

The 200+ mile more affordable EV options for 2019+ will be from Nissan, VW and GM. Then again as production continues to ramp up, the Model 3 base model should have a price drop by 2020 like Model S did over the years....with the launch of the new Model Y. Model 3 is still on the top of my list for a replacement for the 3-series by 2020.

Right now we've never seen evidence of a Focus EV being tested and we can confirm it's not part of the EU Focus launch. It's possible the next generation of Ford's compact utilities is their preferred platform for EVs instead of Focus. Although we have seen very little recently, the NG Escape mules have included a plug. It could be that the Escape is getting a plug or it may very well be the Model E in early testing.
