The combined compensation of the heads of Japan's three largest carmakers was less than that of Ford's Alan Mulally, the world's top-paid auto chief.

Mulally is worth every penny he's paid. He took the basket case of the domestic industry and made it a foward thinking hungry company. He is a true leader with high standards and who is executing a plan with precision. Plus, he's actually made owning a Ford cool. Many of us have had good experiences with Fords over the decades, but many people were burned. Now Fords are at or near the top of every class as far as standard setters. Five years ago the only class setter was the F-series.

I like that there are still new Fords in the pipeline that are going to continue this trend - and what matters most, Ford has to be able to handle success - for too long they've reached heights of success and then lost the edge. This can't happen again. Ford must remain lean, hungry, and out to build the best.

But seriously, is he worth more than Honda Nissan and Toyota heads?

is Mr.M worth more than
- the guy who let the Acuras & Hondas set a new std for UGLY? yup
- the guy who let/encouraged the destruction of TM's former-quality "reputation"? Yup
- Carlos Ghosn - does he get a separate paycheck from Renault? idk really
and
Carlos brings up a Q about ANY Japanese CEO - seeing as how their government PROMOTES monopolies
and practices that'd be illegal here...
...HOW DO WE KNOW what any Japanese exec REALLY takes home??

edit
now is WHOEVER murdered Mercury worth more than the bullet he deserves? . . .

While Mercury's death is regrettable, I do not think its worth a bullet on someones head, it just was not a good business decision in the long term. Case in point, GM kicks F150's butt by having Silverado sold as Sierra, simple as that and they make up the sales at a higher price point, even for pretty basic products, simply because of branding.

Ford is just throwing that chunk of Ford's customer out the door at the very time they need them by killing Mercury. The Question the begs to be asked, is the man really worth more than all the three combined?

Given he has done a stella job so far, but his first real product has not hit the market just yet..

We will see.
