Audi Just Reinvented the Dealership Experience - Autopia
Damon Lavrinc
July 17, 2012

If there were ever a retail model ripe for disruption, it’s the humble car dealer. And Audi thinks it has the answer with Audi City.

The goal is to bring some of the comfort, convenience and customization you’d get from an online car configurator, but with the added convenience of an informative, low-pressure, carbon-based sales rep and a range of new technologies to bring your ride to life – virtually – before you sign on the dotted line.

Think of it as the Apple Store for Audis; smaller, lighter, more scalable, and infinitely more interactive. And Audi is betting big on the concept, with plans to erect 20 more stores worldwide in the next three years.

The first Audi City opened its doors earlier today in London, right down the way from Piccadilly Circus and a stone’s throw from the Summer Olympics campus. Just like BMW’s new i store in the heart of the United Kingdom, the timing isn’t entirely coincidental. And neither is Audi’s focus beyond traditional products and services...

Interesting concept in future dealerships..... Perhaps Lincoln could go one better and show 3-D images so it's like viewing the real thing. All you do is press a few buttons and the image door opens so you can see the interior. Press another and the image engine starts. Have a simulator box where you sit on the actual seats and it's like actually driving the vehicle. Don't they have gaming like this. What an experience the ride could be. Simulate that you are at first driving the 1936Lincoln Zephyr then the Continental updating to the 1949 Cosmopolitan and so on all the way leading up to the new 2013 MKZ. You could taking a tour of the Lincoln history over a short period in time to understand where the Brand has been and where it's going.

Good for Audi, for bringing the "dealership" away from pushy salesmen and making it more about the customer, and their interaction with the car. This proves that not only does a car need to be a "luxury car", but the entire brand, including dealers, need to move forward. Brands need to keep moving forward, not for the sake of change, but when needed, they need to adapt. I hope others follow this concept. Apple stores are highly regarded among retail stores, and making that a model for other retail settings is a good idea.

One of the best value of Audi is the innovation. A company like this is invencible.

This "virtual" dealer is amazing , and open a door for a multiple options to sell cars in the future. Giants screens,3D,virtual drive tech to show and to sell cars. Wow!
