EV firm files for bankruptcy, lays off 50 Oak Park workers - DetNews

A Canadian company that electrifies Ford Motor Co.'s Transit Connect is reorganizing under court-protection and filed for bankruptcy in the United States.
British Columbia-based Azure Dynamics, which has offices in Oak Park, has been installing the battery electric powertrain in Ford's Transit Connect since 2010.
The company laid off about 120 people worldwide at four sites today, including about 50 people in Oak Park, said Mike Elwood, a spokesman for Azure Dynamics. The company also had layoffs at its offices near Boston, the United Kingdom and in Canada.
He confirmed the company had filed for bankruptcy in the United States today.
The company halted production of the Transit EV Monday and said it's not sure when it might be able to restart production — or if it will permanently end production. The company has produced about 500 EV Ford Transit Connect vans worldwide since it began production in late 2010...
