The numbers are in, folks. This year's Michigan State Police Vehicle Evaluation pitted Ford's Jurassic Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (the new Taurus-based Police Interceptor was reportedly on hand, but its numbers won't be included until next year), Chrysler's 2011 Dodge Charger Police Pursuit model and General Motors' Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle against each other in a no-holds-barred fight to the finish. And let's just say the results are closer than you might think.

For instance, as pointed out by the proud parents at Chevrolet, the Caprice did, in fact, manage to set the best acceleration times to 60 miles per hour and 100 mph. But... and there's always a but... the 2011 Charger was pretty much neck-and-neck with the Caprice. In fact, the Charger was quicker to 20, 40, 50, 70 and 80 mph. So, which one is really quicker? Pretty much a photo finish, if you ask us.

Caprice looks promising...

Great speed, great brakes, good handling, good interior room, RWD...

The only possible weakness I see with the Caprice is its price, besides that, seems like a great choice for law enforcement...

Should be interesting to see it go up against Taurus.

Taurus PI doesn't go on sale for a another year and has no official numbers as of yet.

Well since Ford basically has another year to "tweek" the Taurus, you might be right...

Still doesn't change the fact the Taurus interior space is smaller and that its FWD (both big deals in this market)... Ford has more to lose in this segment then GM or Dodge...

No way Ford retains their 70% share in the PPV market with the Taurus...

What a ridiculous title . . . and dishonest. Actually is pure BS, the Taurus based Ford PI who beat the Australian Chevy, handsomely.

Tahoe, you just lost your moral right to complain about anything you read here in the future. Not only the Caprice did not cream any Taurus, we posted the results here a while ago. There are like three threads on the subject. You not only look dishonest but sloppy. Why did you write Taurus on the title? One thing is to editorialize the title of a thread and another is to post a flat out lie. Shame on you.

There are, the Taurus based Ford PI is fastest than the Caprice and breaks better

That feeling might be a déjà vu since it already happened.

If the Taurus killed the Australian car in its current form I can only imagine what it will do to it in a year.

Still doesn't change the fact that the Taurus based Ford PI was a second faster than the Australian Chevy. The size advantage of the Chevy if by negligible measures and the accommodations in the PI are top notch and designed by Americans with the input of America police forces.

There is no way that Ford retains their 70% share in the PPV market with real competitors. Until now Ford reigned because GM and Chrysler had given up. Now the PPV market is heating again, blaming the Taurus based Ford PI for any loss Ford may suffer in the PPV market is almost as disingenous as the title of this thread. It is the Charger who will benefit the most not the Australian car. It flopped as a regular vehicle here and will flop as a police cruiser.

Its disgraceful that after the goverment saved their life, GM expects police forces in America to ride in a foreign designed and manufactured vehicle. Which again, its just middle of the pack.
