Report: Aveo nameplate scratched in favor of Chevrolet Sonic
By Drew Johnson
Leftlanenews.com

Au revoir, Aveo. After debuting a production version of the all-new Chevrolet Aveo at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, General Motors has elected to swap nameplates on its upcoming small car.

According to GM Inside News, the next-generation Aveo will arrive next year under the Sonic nameplate. Like the recently launched Chevrolet Cruze, the Sonic nameplate will stand as the car’s global tag.

According to U.S. Trademark records, GM trademarked the name ‘Chevrolet Sonic’ on October 5th.

. . . and in every case the name dies . . . LOL.
Thats because all of their older smaller cars sucked...The new Cruze and "Aveo" dont... I think their current names on their small cars will stick around for a while this time...

Sorry, but I think Sonic is a ridiculous name. Instead of changing names with each new vehicle, how about you just make the cars good, and people forget that it used to be attached to a crappy car.

"I just bought a new car!!!"
"Great, what did you get?"
"I got a Sonic !!"
"I don't care where you ate, what kind of car did you get??"

Nonsense, Marky Mark would fit in a Ford Ka . . .
In which one?

Maybe they can implement a Chevy Sonic line only . . . a.k.a. the really express line.

Meh the name is ok...

I liked Aveo, they just should have kept it...

I didn't like "Aveo" - sounds like something for dry skin to me
BUT
I'd have used a traditional way of intro'ing new names:
use it as the top-trim name first: Aveo-Sonic
&or, if Aveo isn't worth keeping, put it on just the rental-grade (like Ford's "S" trim)
THEN
next year or so, drop the old part
&
speaking of tradition

Couldn't agree more, I think Sonic is way overrated.. I live up North so their aren't really any Sonics up here, had my first Sonic burger in Arkansas and I wasn't impressed...
They're everywhere here in OK, and I think they are overrated, also. My wife likes their chili-cheese coneys, but I'll just get a strawberry cream slush and get a burger somewhere else.
