Lynk & Co shows first pics of Volvo-developed "03" sedan prototype

Lynk & Co, the new automaker with Chinese money and manufacturing and Volvo's engineering resources, has just previewed its 03 Concept, a design prototype that is the second vehicle the startup has shown in just five months.

Leaning heavily on the same styling language first established with the 01 Concept, the car is set to roll under the klieg lights at the Shanghai Motor Show this week, but for now, we've got these first images of the sedan. The car is expected to ride atop a similar chassis as the 01 crossover SUV, which means it likely employs a version of the Compact Modular Architecture shared with sister brand Volvo...

Another auto show ,another brutish Audi concept and another Mercedes-Benz concept with a unMercedes and extremely sporty grille
I was loving Audi styling for a while there, but now they've gone more angular and I'm liking it less. This one is better than something like the Q8 for me, but still not as good looking as the last-gen of styling that was smoother and had more curves.

not sure if I agree - due to wording^
I liked the Audi style BEFORE they went to a wavy shoulder-line = makes me seasick/queesy
:yikes:
now they MIGHT be fixing that with a straight shoulder-line and separated bumps over the wheels
so
I might like the side-views better
but
the fronts imho look like just turning the old ideas upto 11 ...or 33? ...or 666!
when what they need is NEW ideas

That is hideous. Looks like a Kia Stinger GT got bloated and squished.

Also "Lynk&Co" give me a f*cking break.

I think the new RS5 is one of the nicest looking Audis ever.

This looks like it was lifted out of what Will Smith was driving in 'I, Robot'.:grin2:

The Q8 would be my dream Crossover at the moment.

I wish Lincoln could get away with Audi's Germanic precision and minimalism but you just can't have a convincing Lincoln without lots of exterior chrome trim and smooth sheetmetal. It's more important for them to be uncontroversial at this stage because they can't get away with much.

Minimalism? Maybe old Audis, not the new ones.... look at this mess , with a lot of hard, strange, complicated and inelegant "pastiche" of lines and surfaces. Only one brand is capable to produce something more ugly than this Audi: Lexus

Lynk & Co sounds suspiciously like Lincoln...at least when spoken.
...Also "Lynk&Co" give me a f*cking break.

SHANGHAI -- China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group has delayed Lynk & CO's sales launch in Europe and the United States because it needs more time to establish a company-owned dealership network.

“We think we will start in Europe between the first quarter and the first half of 2019 and enter the U.S. some months later,” Alain Visser, Lynk & CO's senior vice president of marketing and sales, said at the Shanghai auto show here.

Originally, Lynk planned to debut in both markets in late 2018, starting with sales of the 01 compact crossover.

Volvo Car Corp.’s sister brand also revealed this week that Berlin and San Francisco will be its launch markets in Europe and the United States.

“Because Lynk & CO will be the first brand to offer its owners the possibility to share their cars when they are not used, we are starting from cities with a high penetration of shared- economy services," Visser said, "so that means Berlin in Europe and San Francisco in the United States.”

'Broken' model
Last year Visser said the current car distribution model is "broken” because outsourcing sales to dealers robs automakers of margins as well as the opportunity to build up their brand image.

While Lynk & CO plans to set itself apart by emphasizing Internet sales, it also wants to build a network of more than 500 company-owned dealerships, which Visser said will be in big shopping malls. The network will include flagship stores and temporary pop-up stores in cities.

It is taking longer than expected to secure the locations to display the vehicles. Despite having stores, all of the Chinese brand's vehicles will be ordered online and customers will receive delivery at their homes or offices, Visser said.

Visser, who previously worked for Volvo and Opel, confirmed that Lynk & CO's China plans are on track. The 01 will go on sale by year end, followed in mid-2018 by the 02, a model whose vehicle type is undisclosed.

The 03 compact sedan, which was previewed with a concept model this week at the Shanghai show, will arrive in late 2018.

Lynk & CO officials said discussions are underway about whether Europe and the U.S. will receive the 03 sedan and the 02, which sources say could be a sporty hatchback.

Visser confirmed that Lynk & CO expects to sell more than 500,000 vehicles globally starting in 2020, with 55 percent of volume coming from China and the remainder evenly split between Europe and the United States.

Earlier this week Lynk & CO said the upstart brand will offer lifetime warranties and free connectivity as standard features.

Volvo expertise
Lynk & CO's lineup will be underpinned by the compact modular architecture that Geely developed with Volvo. The Swedish automaker will use that for its 40-series compact vehicles, which will be built alongside Lynk models in the southeast China city of Luqiao.

Volvo's factory in Ghent, Belgium, also will produce vehicles built on the new platform, which has led to speculation that Lynk vehicles would also be produced in Belgium. Transportation costs and tariffs would make it difficult for Lynk to make money on its European sales unless the cars are produced locally.

Lynk plans to use Volvo's dealership network or independent dealers for servicing and spare parts.

I agree.....they've gone far more angular with their latest designs, and they've become increasingly less attractive.

Will they be able to get away with "Lynk & Co" in the US with it sounding so similar to Lincoln?

That Chevy looks cool, but it looks like every Lexus and Nissan crossover concept combined from the last 4 years.

It does look very Japanese but some of the most influential and progressive designs are coming out of Asian manufacturers (something I never thought I would ever say). I actually like the new trends, automotive design among mainstream brands have been fairly boring with a few rare exceptions like the Fusion that actually impress. One of the reasons I think sedans are going to pass away is that their designs are now all the same while Crossovers like this offer a more expressive canvas.

I think the biggest inspiration for this concept is the Toyota CHR and others like the Nissan Juke.
