QINGHAI, China — China’s midsize car segment is about to receive another major injection from Ford’s global vehicle lineup. Making its Asia debut at Auto Shanghai 2013, the stunning new Ford Mondeo promises to offer Chinese customers an unprecedented level of smart technologies together with world-class craftsmanship when it hits the market later this year.
Ever since its debut in the region, the new Ford Mondeo, badged as Fusion in North America, has become the center of attention among Chinese auto media. To give the media some first hand experience with the new Mondeo, Changan Ford, Ford’s joint venture in China, brought a group of 60 journalists to a three-day test drive in western China’s Qinghai province.
The route destined to Qinghai Lake covered a mix of national highways and provincial roads, which made it perfect for journalists to test the new Ford Mondeo’s power, handling and range of advanced new features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, SYNC with MyFord Touch, and Lane Keep Assist.
“This car is truly breath-taking! Ford is rolling out new models in China with such an unprecedented speed but the new Ford Mondeo is especially eye catching. With a beautiful exterior and a redesigned interior, the new Mondeo is likely to become a game changer in China’s B-car segment,” wrote Wu Yongshen, a journalist from Car Guide on his Sina Weibo post.
“The new Ford Mondeo has the best in class NVH performance. I barely heard any noise in the cabin even when the engine was at high revs,” said Cui Jun, a journalist from Car Owners.
Changan Ford started taking customer orders for the new Ford Mondeo in June, with the pre-sale price ranging from RMB 189,900 to RMB 275,900 (from US$30,100 to US$43,700). Customers can choose from six models with different trim options. The new Mondeo will come with Ford’s 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost engine in China.
UPDATE:
August marked the launch of the all-new Ford Mondeo in China, priced from RMB 179,800 to RMB 265,800. Introduced on August 29, the all-new Ford Mondeo sets the standard for the mid-to-high-end segment, featuring a sleek, head-turning design, and award-winning 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines for leading fuel economy and high performance.
Furthermore, cutting-edge in-car technologies give Chinese customers the connected and fun driving experience they love and have come to expect from the Ford brand.
