^ EcoBoost is DirectInjection + Turbo charging + Ford's (super secret sauce) software.
Hybrids have electric motors & batteries in addition to some other kind of power (like gas/petrol).
&
for the following article,
I've read that a CGI engine block can be lighter than an aluminum one.

plenty MORE... that I don't understand

what I find interesting & might understand is
it sounds like future EB's will possibly be

v8's = 4.0 to 4.8
v6's = 3.0 to 3.6
4cyls = 2.0 to 2.4
and
1.5 to 1.8 = 3cyls
adding to the idea that the new "1.5" won't be a 4cyl

Whilst Ford does have their own proprietary control software the notion that this in, and of itself makes Ecoboost engines the best of direct injection forced induction engines is at best erroneous. I do wonder how specific outputs approaching or exceeding 140 hp/ liter will effect long term reliability however.

With modern materials and engineering I don't see an issue. When you consider how much power tuners eek out of older small displacement engines, then consider that the vast majority of new cars are never driven in their upper power ranges much I think they'll be fine. My biggest concern is more electric/electronic, as in trying to troubleshoot modern tech ladden cars when they do have an issue.

• The 2015 Ford Mustang is slated to get a fuel-efficient 2.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, but only for European editions.
• The engine is based on the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine featured in the 2013 Ford Focus ST.
Engine output is likely to rise from 252 horsepower to 300 hp in 2.3-liter form, according to company insiders.

at 140hp per liter, the 2.3EB should produce 322hp!!

what about 1.5 EB that they announced for the new mondeo ?

An email answer from a FORD official
here's the 1.5EB3's first official announcement

1.5EB = 132kW = 177hp = only 118hp-per-liter
BUT
if we increase that by 20%, JUST LIKE the 2.0EB came out with a 2nd higher power version in Europe, which became the Only version for the U.S.;
we come out at just OVER the expected 140-per-liter

so imho it's safe to look for that 210hp!
