Edmund's Insideline: Lincoln MKT to debut in NAIAS 2008

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — In an innocuous story about recent trends in car names, the Los Angeles Times this weekend let it slip that the 2009 Lincoln MKT will make its debut at next week's 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

Although the Times does not describe the MKT, it's a safe bet the new vehicle will be Lincoln's version of the seven-passenger 2009 Ford Flex that debuted at the 2007 New York Auto Show.

Although the Flex is powered by Ford's familiar 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, the MKT may use Ford's new 270-hp 3.7-liter engine instead. The new V6 will make its first appearance in the 2009 MKS, Lincoln's new flagship sedan which debuted in November at the L.A. auto show.

can't wait! glad it's so soon (assuming the ThisYear intro is correct)
&
I got a speculation - & since they mention both the MKT & Flex, I'm sticking it here (hope it's not OT/hijacking)

so
the MKT is getting the 270(+)hp 3.7 and the 340(+)hp EcoBoost 3.5, right?
what if
the Flex has the 260hp 3.5 and a EcoBoost-HYBRID* 4 cyl? ( = around 300hp? thinking EcoBoost4=275hp plus at least** 22hp for the electro-motors

imho that^d cover just about every need/want/category
and make the Flex-H a superGreen status symbol...

* doesn't it seem like Ford's been suspiciously quiet about hybrids beyond the Fusion/Milan's?
AND could that explain why the F/M/MKZ MCE debuts have been postponed - to let the 2 'big guys' have center stage to themselves?
** Escape/Mariner hybrids iirc

as I said elsewhere - the Lincoln was not previewed to the media - so I would not bet on it being in NAIAS - this could very well be a typo from LA Times.

That makes sense but neither was the MKS (although there was a teaser concept) and neither will be the F-150. So there is still a possibility. I really doubt that Edmunds would have posted this note based only on the L.A. Times note . . .

We will soon know.
Well, I think WINGSNUT wrote recently to expect a suprise from Lincoln at NAIAS.

No?
If this is true, I can't wait for next week to see the pictures and details on the net!

Lincoln will have something never before seen at NAIAS.

It's about time they got us all stirred up about something! This has been a great week between all the new info on the EcoBoost engines and now on the MKT. And if you've seen the video presentation on YouTube by Lincoln's Global Product Manager (about the EcoBoost), you've also seen what will hopefully be called the Taurus SHO dusting off a Cadillac CTS in a drag race on the Dearborn test lot. The way it leaps and roars off the line is enough to give any Blueblooder a jolt of hope for the future. A week ago, we didn't even have a hint that the EcoBoost would be used in anything as modestly priced as a Taurus. Now I don't see any reason they couldn't put on in a special MKZ model with AWD. I suggest they call it the LS.
As I type this, Phil LeBeau of CNBC just commented that he saw "the next Lincoln". He could't say anymore but I would say he liked it.

In fact, he just said that his older collegue, Mark Haines, will "really like the new Lincoln".

Here's his latest Blog about Mulally and mention of Lincoln: www.cnbc.com/id/22571658

I'm getting excited about this.

I have to wait until the weekend, right?
Megeebee,
You will not be disapointed once you see this Lincoln. It will be rolled out in about a year as a 2010 MY vehicle. I can't say much more than that, but Lincoln certainly needs this and it is very stylish.
According to this:

Not the Fusion, no. F-150, MKT and only God (and Alan, and Mark, and Jim, and wingsnut and some other guys . . . but not me) knows what else.

media was not given a preview of the Lincoln - so there will be no embargo breach - we will all see it together on Monday :D

we did see the F150, Explorer America, Verve, and EcoBoost back in December though. (well I didn't - my boss did)

The Mazda6 is for sure. Or so I heard.

I am wondering though if you are breaking news here or I have been living in oblivion-land, but I don't remember any formal anouncement about the upcoming B car being called Verve, :D and you have called it that twice now.
