DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 12, 2015 – The unique EcoBoost® engine in the all-new Focus RS will produce 350 horsepower – far exceeding original estimates of 315 – along with 350 lb.-ft. torque.
And yet even with all that torque, the manual-only hot hatch will be especially forgiving in the event a driver stalls the engine, as Focus RS will debut with a trick feature called stall recovery. In other words, there will be no need for drivers to manually restart the engine or move the gear selector to neutral as the innovative technology simply pushes the clutch back in.

“We knew we wanted to put start-stop technology on the RS,” explained Tyrone Johnson, engineering and vehicle manager, Ford Performance Europe. “So we said, ‘What if we went one step further, and controlled for engine stall at launch using the same technology?’ Well, that’s exactly what we did and it’s just as fast as our start-stop technology.”
The monster output the Focus RS engine achieves is due to its all-new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with a larger compressor wheel that delivers more airflow and power throughout the rev range. Peak turbocharger boost is 23.2 psi.

Backing up this increased output is a large intercooler to maximize charge density. Air itself is delivered through a low-restriction intake manifold on the front end with a high-performance exhaust. The system includes an electronically controlled valve that optimizes back pressure and exhaust volume level.
Stout, high-tensile cast-iron cylinder liners are used to enhance the robustness of the engine, while a high-performance head gasket brings improved thermal capability.
Additional space created in the front of the car allowed engineers to deploy a larger radiator than what’s used on other Focus models for enhanced cooling.
Despite the engine’s high output of 152 horsepower per liter, RS engineers tuned this EcoBoost to deliver right off idle all the way on up to a free-spinning 6,800 rpm, with an especially chunky midrange power delivery.

Focus RS is the latest car to be unveiled as part of a new golden age of Ford Performance. The plan calls for bringing more than 12 high-performance vehicles to market worldwide through 2020.

Developed by a small team of Ford Performance engineers in Europe and the United States, the third-generation Focus RS follows on the heels of the much-loved models launched in 2002 and 2009. The 2016 Focus RS is the 30th car globally to wear the vaunted RS badge, joining such legendary models as the 1970 Escort RS1600, the 1984 mid-engine RS200 Group B rally car, 1985 Sierra RS Cosworth and 1992 Escort RS Cosworth.
Production of Focus RS with 2.3-liter EcoBoost begins later this year.

Ford Focus RS Power Increased to 350 HP, 350 LB-FT

The Ford Focus RS hasn’t even come out yet, and it’s already making enthusiasts happier with a horsepower increase.

The official figure for the manual-only hot hatch now stands at a whopping 350 horsepower, up from the 345 figure Ford estimated in June. Torque from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder is also rated at 350 pound-feet. Peak horsepower occurs at 6,000 rpm to the 6,800-rpm redline and maximum thrust comes online at a low 3,200 rpm.

The four-wheel drive Focus RS will also be move forgiving: It will restart the engine automatically after a stall. There will be no need for a driver to manually restart the engine after a stall, and the system will depress the clutch on its own.

“We knew we wanted to put start-stop technology on the RS,” explained Tyrone Johnson, engineering and vehicle manager, Ford Performance Europe, in a press release. “So we said, ‘What if we went one step further, and controlled for engine stall at launch using the same technology?’ ”

Production of the Ford Focus RS begins later this year.

Ford Focus RS Orders Reach 1,500 Mark in the UK

No one can even test drive the Ford Focus RS yet, but there are already 1,500 orders in the U.K. for the hot hatch.

According to the American automaker’s U.K. arm, 500 Focus RS fans have already paid deposits to secure the first cars, while 1,000 other prospective buyers will be among the first to take delivery next spring. The hot hatch will be powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder engine with 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque and enthusiasts worldwide can’t wait for it to arrive.

Unfortunately, order numbers in the U.S. have not been announced, although it’s more than likely that it exceeds the 1,500 figure in the U.K. The American enthusiast market has been clamoring for a formidable, high-performance hatchback for quite some time now and the Ford Focus RS fits the billing, especially in the styling department. Standard equipment on the Ford Focus RS includes 19-inch wheels, twin high-performance exhaust, Bi-Xenon headlights, Recaro front seats, dual-zone electronic temperature control, heated windscreen and washer jets as well as an RS performance rear spoiler.

“These enthusiasts are taking great care in building their optimum specification,” said Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director. “We expected those first in the queue, many of whom are owners of previous RS models, to be exacting about their requirements, and so it has proved, with many opting for motorsport-style Recaro shell front seats, 19in black forged alloy wheels, luxury pack, electric tilt/side sunroof and Ford SYNC2 navigation and sound system.”

Amazing how much power you can put in that platform and still keep it together. 350HP in a CD4 car would be pushing it.
Do you not own a perfectly competent CD4 vehicle with 335 horsepower twisting 380 ftlb? Continental will be CD4 pushing 400. I feel like you may hold that opinion of CD4 because it hasn't really been pressed to perform out of the factory yet. Not to a fault, though, I'm just as in-the-dark.

You cannot use computer tricks to change track times.
Sure you can. Just buy the racetrack and don't let anyone else record the fastest times by enforcing speed limits, and your car with the previous record reigns forever... Oh wait...

330 HP and 370 ftlbs - I didn't know the MKX was up that high, I thought it had the same specs as Edge Sport which is at 315/350. It is reluctant to put it down quickly however which I'm hoping will be improved with the 3.0 and new transmission.

Even the 2.7, a tune, and the new transmission would do wonders! As for the 3.0, I wouldn't mind that being available on the MKX, but exclusively so as a Black Label option. Having three engine choices for the MKX wouldn't be terrible, but I'd ditch the 3.7 and ease in the 2.3.
