Ford Developing 2015 Escort in Australia
Autoevolution.com

Revived after nearly 15 years through a concept that was shown at last year’s Shanghai Motor Show, the Ford Escort name will return for the 2015 model year, when the compact sedan will be launched in China.

Although it will be built by the Changan-Ford joint venture, the brand new Escort is not developed in China. According to Car Advice, Ford decided that design and development duties will be handed over to its Australian division, who also created the global Ranger pickup truck.

Little is know about the new Escort, but the aforementioned source claims that the sedan will be launched with 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines.

The production version of the Escort concept will be one of 15 new Fords set to go on sale in China, the world's biggest automotive market, by 2015.

It seems the key in China is big-cheap or less is more concept. So the Escort should be bigger than the Focus, but have less content, lower hp engines, no torque vectoring etc that will bring the price down.

Same here. If it's bigger than a Focus, then...yeah. It won't fit into the scheme for the US market.
It's probably similar in size, but roomier because if its more upright greenhouse. Lower C-segment cars in China are usually more practical than the Higher C-segment compacts which are usually sleeker global models with more coupe-like rooflines.

I'll just repost this here (with additional photo)

Spy Shots: new Ford Escort testing in China

The very first spy shots of the new Ford Escort testing in China, seen here heavily camouflaged on a flatbed truck. The new Ford Escort debuted as a concept on the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. The production version will debut on the Beijing Auto Show in April and it will be launched on the China car market in the second half of the year.

New news about names: earlier on we heard the Chinese name of the Escort would be ‘Yachite’. New reports in Chinese media indicate Ford has also registered ‘Furuisi’ (福睿斯) for the Escort. Which name Ford will eventually use is however yet unclear. The new Ford Escort will be made in China by the Chang’an-Ford joint venture.

The new Ford Escort is based on the current China-made Ford Focus Classic, which is a slightly dressed up second generation Ford Focus. The Ford Escort will technically replace the Ford Focus Classic and will be positioned under the current third generation Ford Focus. The Escort however will be powered by different engines than the Focus Classic. Engines available will be a 1.3 and a 1.5, both borrowed from the China-made Ford Fiesta. Some Chinese media say the 1.0 3-cylinder Ecoboost will become available as well.

Looking at Chinese Ford car pricing, when the new Focus launched it was at a higher price point than the Focus Classic, and above the Fiesta. Unlike the New Mondeo which is at the same price point as the old Mondeo.

It seems the New Escort should be the same price as the current Focus Classic.

Well that has to be encouraging for Australia, after all the bad news they've had lately. There is something I quite like about this Escort. I understand that it will be low cost, and is on an old platform, but it goes to show just how much a strong design team can do. It looks worlds better than any other low-cost car I can think of.

The Escort looks better than the Focus and Fiesta.
Almost..... The current Focus has a very busy style. The next gen needs to be more simple at the exterior. With some "retro" cues from the first gen...
I hope the german Ford design team leave the drugs and work better this time... :thumb:
