As if I'm not mistaken, the Ka and is a joint venture with Fiat?
Yes, the previous European Ford Ka Mk2 was a joint venture with Fiat, it was made alongside the retro 500 at the Fiat plant in Tychy, Poland.


The Ka Mk2 was discontinued in 2016 and was replaced by the 5-door Ka+.

Euro-spec Ka+ manufactured by Ford India

Like the Ka Mk1, the new Ka+ is based on a Fiesta platform.

The Ka has slowly lost any personality, like a mini-fridge on wheel snow.
The last Ka was stylish, quirky but kind of impractical, the new one is actually useful.





Maybe Ford can lop off 8 inches from the wheelbase, ditch the rear doors and put rounded rear side windows to make a modern less practical 3-door Ka... :D

Ford Tables Plans For A New Model Range In India And China

Ford Motor Company has reportedly made the decision to table plans for a new compact car family intended for developing markets like China and India, following lackluster sales of small-to-mid-size hatchbacks and sedans in those countries.

According to Reuters, Ford’s tentatively-canceled “B500” model range would have consisted of a premium sedan, hatchback, and crossover utility vehicle, which would have been produced locally in China and India starting in 2018. Additional production was slated for Brazil, Thailand, and Russia, one of the outlet’s sources said...

...Now, instead of investing in the B500 model range, Ford will allegedly work on redesigning the existing Ford EcoSport crossover, Figo hatchback, and Figo Aspire sedan subcompact models for 2020-2021...

Apparently the B563 replaced that cancelled B500 project.
The B563 models will slot above the Figo/Ka & Aspire and will essentially be a Fiesta replacement for developing markets.

I have a feeling the B563 will have a longer wheelbase than the Fiesta.

Ford to explore strategic partnership with Indian automaker Mahindra

Ford Motor Co. said Monday it has agreed to explore a strategic alliance with India's Mahindra Group as a way to strengthen its presence in India and help Mahindra expand into other global markets.

Terms laid out in a joint statement call for working together for up to three years in areas including mobility, connected vehicles, electric vehicles and product development. Ford wants to strengthen its distribution in India's $30 billion auto market, which is expected to become the world's third-largest by 2020, according to Automotive News. Mahindra, meanwhile, would benefit from Ford's reach in other emerging markets.

"Teams from both companies will collaborate and work together for a period of up to three years. Any further strategic cooperation between the two companies will be decided at the end of that period," the companies said.

Ford is among the top exporters of cars from India, with vehicle and engine plants in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Sanand, Gujarat. The country is also Ford's second-largest worker base globally, with more than 14,000 employees. The company has invested more than $2 billion in India and plans further spending to establish a global engineering enter in Chennai to tweak products for the local market and more quickly adapt to changing consumer trends, Reuters reports.

The announcement comes after former Ford CEO Mark Fields, who was ousted in May, placed the company's business in India under review, and after his successor, Jim Hackett, was reviewing the company's strategy in the country.

India has proven a tough nut to crack for automakers such as Volkswagen, Fiat Chrysler and General Motors, which said in May it would stop selling cars in India from the end of this year. Meanwhile, Suzuki and Hyundai enjoy nearly two-thirds of the country's auto market.

Mahindra, based in Mumbai, is a diversified $19 billion conglomerate that operates in more than 100 countries. The company is perhaps best known for its farm equipment and its Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. automaker division, which makes the Willys Jeep-licensed utility vehicle. It also has ventures in IT, financial services and hospitality.

Ford entered India in 1995 by way of a partnership with Mahindra, setting up a factory near Chennai that produced the Escort sedan. The two companies ended their partnership in 2005.

2018 Ford Figo facelift and a new crossover variant spied testing

Here are a couple of spy images of the upcoming 2018 Ford Figo facelift testing alongside the soon-to-launch crossover variant. The Figo facelift will come with a host of styling updates along with possibly a new petrol engine. The crossover variant, which is known as the Ford Ka Trail in South American markets, will be called either ‘Active’ or ‘Freestyle’. It will offer a slightly more rugged styling package. The 2018 Figo facelift will make its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018 and will likely launch in the second quarter of next year.

Ford is known for developing great user-friendly products that are high in quality and low on mentainance. The Ford Figo and the Ecosport have seen immense success in the country and abroad. These high volume models also pave way for other premium models like the Endeavour adding to their sales and success. The Ford Figo has received numerous rewards over time pertaining to its design, practicality, low mentainance and value for money. It would be nice if Ford exported this around Asia-Pacific. The Figo/Figo Freestyle can fill in the void the Fiesta will leave when the old-gen model fades away. They need an affordable sub-compact car priced significantly lower than the EcoSport, even lower than the Fiesta.

Ford is working on a facelift for the Ford Aspire. Recently, the facelifted Ford Aspire was spied in China, a market where the current pre-facelift model is not sold.

Ford makes two versions of Ford Aspire, one with a 4,254 mm-long body and one with a 3,995 mm-long body. The latter was developed specifically for India, where petrol and diesel cars with length not exceeding 4,000 mm attract only 1% compensation cess as opposed to 17% or 20% if the length over 4,000 mm. China will most likely get the longer version.

The facelifted Ford Aspire features a Ford Mondeo Vignale-inspired hexagonal mesh grille at the front. Inside, it gets a redesigned centre console similar to that of the Ford Freestyle, with the 6.5-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With the incorporation of this new system, there’s a noticeable reduction in the number of buttons, giving the interior a cleaner and more modern styling. Ford has changed the place of the USB port and equipped the model with two of them.

The current Ford Aspire is available in India with three four-cylinder engines: 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5L TDCi diesel. While the diesel engine may continue as is, the 1.2L and 1.5L petrol engines may get replaced by the new 1.2L and 1.5L three-cylinder petrol engines from the Ford Freestyle and Ford EcoSport respectively.

Originating from the Dragon engine family, the new 1.2L petrol engine produces 96 PS and 120 Nm of torque in the Freestyle and the new 1.5L petrol engine develops 100 PS and 205 Nm of torque in the EcoSport. Ford may offer the former with the MX65 5-speed manual transmission made by Getrag and the latter with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2018 Ford Aspire is expected to go on sale in India in the second half of the year. Ford is working on a pure electric variant of the Ford Aspire as well for our market, but that is based on full-size version. China will get the new Ford Aspire in summer next year, as a Changan Ford joint venture product.

As expected, the sedan will get the same general updates as the recently revealed facelifted Ford Ka Plus (Figo).

So many names for the same car, Aspire/Figo/Ikon/Freestyle
I believe the "Ikon" name is no longer used by Ford.

Names:

Hatchback: Ka (South America), Ka Plus (Europe), Figo (India and some export markets)

Sub-4-meter Sedan: Aspire (India specific)

Sedan: Ka Sedan (South America), Figo Sedan (Made in India for export markets)

CUV Hatchback: Freestyle (India), Ka Plus Active (Europe), Ka Freestyle (South America)

South America and Europe stick with the "Ka" name since it's already established in those markets.
India stick to the Figo name since it replaces the 1st gen Figo there.
Europe adopts the "Active" name instead of "Freestyle" to fit in with the new range of European "Active" crossover models like the recently unveiled Fiesta Active.

Those wheels have 5 lugs unlike the Fiesta and EcoSport. EcoSport is currently the only SUV/Crossover to use a 4-lug design. It's possible the Maverick is B-Segment based but I just hope this is a replacement for EcoSport.

wonder if 5 lugs:
-- are cuz electrics (can) cause more torque-stress
-- PROVE the mysteryMaverick is the EcoSpurt replacement
Ford's new subcompact SUV will most likely (logically) use a B-segment car platform.

I think Ford can easily upgrade to 5-lug hubs even if it's based on a platform of a car with 4-lugs. Other carmakers have done this, here are some examples:
Look at the Mazda CX-3 which is based on the Mazda 2, same platform, but the crossover has 5-lugs, while the car has 4-lugs.

Mazda 2 (aka Toyota Yaris iA in the US)


Another example is the Kia Soul (5-lugs) which is built on the same platform as the previous Rio (4-lugs).



PS: Did you guys know the Asian Fiesta uses Mazda 2 hubs with a different PCD (spacing between bolts) compared to the European and North American Fiesta? 4x100 vs 4x108.
