Ford Focus was China's top-selling nameplate of 2013

The Ford Focus sedan snagged the title of China's best-selling passenger vehicle of 2013 as C-segment sedans continued to dominate sales charts in world's largest auto market.

According to data from IHS Automotive, the Ford Focus topped all other nameplates in China last year with 403,640 sales, up 36.2 percent from the year prior. The Volkswagen Lavida finished in second place with 374,056 deliveries, followed by the Buick Excelle with 296,183. The Toyota Corolla (294,401 units) and the Chevrolet Sail (276,242 units) rounded out the top five best-selling vehicles in China last year.

That is really impressive when you consider Ford is late to China. This should definitely raise Ford's profile in China going forward.

The Focus is a remarkable achievement for Ford, in so many ways. It's too bad it falls so far behind the competition in the US market.

This makes it so obvious why a sporty Hybrid and Energi plug-in hybrid Focus hatch would do very well globally.

Especially for the single and childless couples who don't want a tall wagon to get a c-segment hybrid or plug-in. Right now their ONLY option is the Prius lift back by default. But that's about to change.
