Lincoln

Sep-24-2014 9:00 PM ET

SEOUL, South Korea – On September 18, Ford Korea announced the official launch of Lincoln’s first-ever premium compact SUV, the all-new Lincoln MKC, a vehicle that combines prestige and elegance with the SUV’s dynamic performance.

The MKC, breaking the stereotype concept that SUV is only for practical reasons that are far from luxury, sets off to satisfy the newly-rising premium compact SUV lovers as well as the existing Lincoln fans.

Exterior Design: dynamic and powerful

The MKC boasts not only dynamic and powerful driving performance, but also fashionable and stylish design with carefully selected materials.

Its sleek, sculpted body and elegant line definitely puts a spot light on the MKC among other vehicles. Its high beltline and low shoulders create a sturdy, athletic presence, enhanced by a low center of gravity for responsive handling and cornering stability.

The pedestal sideview mirrors improve visibility and an available panoramic Vista Roof® lets natural light fill the cabin, creating a feeling of openness.

To complement full-width LED taillamps, longer-lasting and energy-efficient HID headlamps are integrated within the Lincoln signature split-wing grille to give the front end a distinctive look.

Interior Design: Evolution of Lincoln’s new design DNA

The evolution of Lincoln design carries through to the interior, where craftsmanship, luxury materials and a high-tech environment bring together Lincoln’s revolutionary design.

As the first vehicle designed from the ground up in a dedicated Lincoln Design Studio, with Soo Kang, the chief interior designer of Lincoln, and other internationally distinguished automobile designers as Moray Callum, David Woodhouse, the all-new Lincoln MKC strikes even more sophisticated design DNA of Lincoln, which started with MKZ.

Great attention was paid to ensuring the high quality of all customer interface points, from rich materials and exquisite detailing on the door panels and seats, to the clean, uncluttered one-piece center console that helps to create a calm and open environment. A sweeping, full-wide instrument panel, completed with the Lincoln signature push-button gear shift, contributes to a sense of spaciousness and creates storage space in the center console where a traditional gear shift would be.

Throughout the cabin, available open-pore wood trim, door-panel stitching, and exclusive Bridge of Weir® Deepsoft leather-trimmed seats accentuate the MKC’s elegance and grace. Deepsoft leather is a non-embossed, chromium-free leather that undergoes a 16-hour softening process to give it a supple, natural feel. Available trims include Sonata Spin appliqués, and natural, responsibly harvested Zebrano and Santos Rosewood.

Furthermore, an all-new Lincoln steering wheel debuts on the MKC. The highly tactile, Wollsdorf leather-wrapped wheel is optional and offers a better feel and improved control, putting Lincoln luxury in the driver’s hands.

Engine and Driving Technology: 2.0L EcoBoost engine and upgraded features

The MKC comes standard with a 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder turbocharged engine, projected to produce 240 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm, according to preliminary test data. This makes this vehicle an all-EcoBoost vehicle. It’s also mated to a smooth-shifting, six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Lincoln Drive Control is an optional suite of ride-enhancing technologies designed to customize the driving experience and deliver an exhilarating ride. Lincoln Drive Control consists of continuously controlled damping, electric power-assisted steering and active noise control.

Active Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, MyLincoln Touch™ System, Hands-free Liftgate, among many other smart functions are combined to offer premium features for drivers’ comfort and safety.

The MKC will greet owners with exclusive Approach Detection, which senses when an owner is near and responds by illuminating “welcome mats” on the ground next to both front doors. Simultaneously, headlamps, taillamps and door handles glow with soft lighting tuned to complement the vehicle’s exterior color.

All-New Lincoln MKC launch event

Ford Korea launched the all-new MKC with an event that represents superb driving performance and design, and distinctive value of the vehicle through artistic performance to surpass expectations of Korean customers, who long waited for this launch at Galleria Foret located in Sungsoo-dong, Seoul on September 18.

The theme of the event was “Meet the Unexpected” to represent the MKC, a vehicle that combines prestige and elegance with the SUV’s dynamic performance, aspects that are not readily expected from other SUV models, the event delivers the attractive features of the vehicle in an intuitive and distinctive way.

With this launch event, an extraordinary and dynamic visual art performance by modern dancers expressed the vehicles superb key features, design and unequaled value in an artistic way that showcased the media art performance by harmonizing a three-dimensional multi-display shown on a floor-to-ceiling surface that measures 16 meters in each side, with the performance of modern dancers.

Soo Kang visited the launch event to present the design DNA of the future-oriented and refined MKC, and to share the philosophy and heritage of Lincoln design.

“We gave attention to every detail to convey a stylish, luxurious vehicle,” said Soo Kang, Interior design chief, Lincoln. “The structure of the interior allows for openness, and that space contributes to the overall ambience. We want this vehicle to not only meet but exceed the expectations of the new Lincoln customer.”

Having engaged with many Korean artists leading the innovative and creative art frontier, to maximize Lincoln’s values of synergy with culture and art through the All-New Lincoln MKZ launch projects, such as the Lincoln Reimagine Project, Ford Korea once again showcased the launch of all-new Lincoln MKC through innovative and creative content combined by technology and art.

“The All-New Lincoln MKC signifies future of Lincoln, and it presents the new standard of the luxury compact SUV to the compact SUV segment, the fastest growing part of the auto market,” said Jae Jung, president, Ford Korea. “Combining prestigious and elegant touch in SUV’s dynamic performance, it is expected to offer the most differentiated choice in the SUV segment for the customers who longed for compact premium SUV.”

The all-new Lincoln MKC is the first-ever compact SUV model from Lincoln. It is a strategic model that will be a differentiated selection in the luxury compact SUV market which is growing rapidly worldwide. In addition, the MKC is the second of four strategic models that success the MKZ launched last year. The MKC is a premium vehicle that can satisfy Lincoln customers and lead the century long luxury brand, Lincoln’s growth.

The all-new Lincoln MKC will be priced at KRW 49mil (including VAT).

the MKC has an amazing design, and I like that lincoln was a global brand, it's a shame as the directors of the ford left abandoned and left him many years the market for premium cars to the Germans.

True, so Lincoln has some catching up to do globally. In the US Lincoln is up 13.4%. Compared with Mercedes-Benz up 9% and BMW up 11.6%
